Moving data to new computer - no diary
Moving data to new computer - no diary
I have loaded sleepyhead into my replacement computer and copied over the sleepyhead data testing file and all is well except that my diary has not copied over. Is this information stored in a different folder, and if so does anyone know where to look?

Looks like this is stored under your Windows profile - for below path <user> is the login/profile on Windows and <Profile> is the name of the SleepyHead profile you've been using:mecheng wrote:I have loaded sleepyhead into my replacement computer and copied over the sleepyhead data testing file and all is well except that my diary has not copied over. C:\Users\<User>\Documents\SleepyHeadData-Testing\Profiles\<Profile>\Journal_Some_number\Summaries\Somefilename.000
Not sure what you'll see in that path since I don't really use that feature (until today anyhow)

Thank you for your prompt reply but I copied the whole of the sleepyhead data-testing file which contained that particular file, and the rest of my profile worked straight off. It's just that the notes section in which I kept my diary of how I feel and amount of exercise I attempt do not seem to have transferred with this directory.

Re: Moving data to new computer - no diary
Have you tried writing a new note (in SleepyHead on the new computer) to see how it affects the journal folder? Maybe that would give you a clue as to the problem. At the very least, it should show the folder was modified at the time of the new note. It's possible creating a new note will create a new journal folder? Or, perhaps writing a new note will establish a link that is needed? Or, maybe you won't be able to write a new note?
Just throwing stuff out there.
I 'think", if you write a new note, it will create a new journal folder with a different suffix. Then, I think, you will have to copy the old journal into the new, or perhaps change the suffix of the old to that of the new. Be sure to make a back up copy of the old journal before you try anything.

Re: Moving data to new computer - no diary
There is a folder in my profile in the format of: "..\Profiles\<profile>\Journal_xxxxxxxx\"
In that folder is a file called "Summaries.xml.gz". This is a GZIP archive file (can be opened with 7zip or some other Zip programs) and it contains an XML file "Summaries.xml" that has an entry apparently for each journal entry called "id", and numbered as a 10 digit decimal number. Convert that 10 digit decimal to a hexidecimal and you get the filename of the corresponding .000 file that contains the content for that specific diary entry ID referenced in the Summaries.xml.gz.
..\Profiles\<Profile>\Journal_xxxxxxxx\Summaries\<HEXNUMBER>.000
Maybe you'll locate a whole bunch of these .000 files somewhere you hadn't expected? I'm not going to disassemble anything tonight but I suppose it's possible you might be missing Gzip on your system. Maybe try installing 7Zip or something.

Re: Moving data to new computer - no diary
I 'think", if you write a new note, it will create a new journal folder with a different suffix. Then, I think, you will have to copy the old journal into the new, or perhaps change the suffix of the old to that of the new. Be sure to make a back up copy of the old journal before you try anything.
I did do a quick test of my suggestion above about copying the contents of the old journal file into the new by creating a test profile on my computer and then creating a note with the new test profile and then copying the contents of the original journal folder from the old (existing) profile into the new journal folder that was created in the test profile when I created the new note.
Prior to creating a new note in the new test profile, there was no journal folder. It appears that writing a note creates the folder. The new profile would not open the old journal file when it was wholly copied into the new profile. So it looks like, first, a new folder must be created to get the path (the suffix part of Journal xxxxx.) and then the data from the original journal can be put in it. Which I did and it worked. However, my guess is it would of worked if I had just changed the suffix of the old to that of the new and deleted (or renamed) the new.
The above sounds like a lot of babble, but the short of it is getting the old info into the new path that's created in the new location.
Edit: This morning the above still sounds like babble. I'll leave it, but to clarify, I've written the steps below:
*With File Explorer, Open the SleepyHead Data Test file, then Profiles, then name, then note the suffix of the Journal_000xxx folder, the 000xxx part. Make a copy of this folder for safe keeping.
*Now, run SleepyHead in the new location and write a note at the current day. This should create a new Journal Folder with a new suffix.
*Next, with File Explorer, copy the contents of the original Journal Folder, noted above, into the new Journal Folder, it will ask to replace a file, say yes (that's the note that was just written).
*Now, all previous items contained in the old Journal Folder should be accessible to SleepyHead in the new location.

Re: Moving data to new computer - no diary
Thank you for your replies above but I have woken today in a poor state and know from experience not to attempt this type of thing or indeed anything technical when like this as I always mess up so hopefully I may try later or if not tomorrow.
