Is this normal in the beginning
Is this normal in the beginning
I just started therapy in November. In the beginning I felt refreshed and rested with 6 hrs of sleep. Now the last month it seems like I'm sleeping longer and not feeling as good no matter how long I sleep. Ahi is generally under 1.5 each night. Do I just need to catch up on the years of missed sleep?

How new is the cushion for your mask? Sometimes washing is not enough.
Medicare and most insurance (USA) allow for one new full face cushion a month.
Most can make it last longer, but if you are still limping along with the original cushion--ouch!

Re: Is this normal in the beginning
You should look at your data via sleepyhead to see what is happening. If all those events are clustered around certain times of the night then an average is giving you a totally false picture.
However once your body learns to sleep deeply with a cpap it does often go through a "Must have more sleep NOW" phase in order to do catch up repairs. On the other hand if you are now sleeping more deeply you may be having more events around your REM cycle.

Re: Is this normal in the beginning
I can have good numbers, but am not feeling as rested because of poor sleep hygiene. I would look at your Sleepyhead data, maybe there is something to learn there. Otherwise, take a look at your sleep hygiene. Being mindful of that has helped me. Good Luck!

As was mentioned, you need to be looking at your nightly data with software.......like Sleepyhead.jt1 wrote:I just started therapy in November. But, if your pressures are changing alot during the night, it could be bumping you out of your needed, deeper, restorative sleep stages and leaving you feeling unrested. Happens to lots of people using APAPs in ranges of pressures.
