Tube cover causing more moisture in mask

Post by Seanm04 » Sun Mar 06, 2016 3:57 pm

I finally got the humidity to a good point on my machine to where my the inside of my nose wasn't dried out, but I was having a problem with a lot of moisture in my mask. I purchased a respironics fleece tube cover that said it would cut down on the "rain" in my mask. However, it seems that the rain problem has gotten much worse with the cover, to the point it drips out or blows out on me when I take the mask off. I have tried cutting the humidity down, but it just dries me out again. Did I get duped into buying something useless, or is there anything I can do to fix the rain problem?
Thanks!

Make sure the machine's sitting on something lower than your head so the water runs back down toward it, and not you.

I have the same problem. I keep the room quite cool (less than 60 usually), and I think that the warm moist air arrives to the mask, and then because the FF mask I use isn't insulated, it condenses against the cool mask. Not sure how to get rid of it. If I get up, I just make sure to wipe out the inside of the mask. Maybe I need a cosy for the outside of the mask!

A mask cozy sounds like a good idea; but don't block the exhaust vents.

We keep our bedroom pretty cold as well. Maybe if I turn the tube temp down. It was preset at 82 and I haven't moved it much.

tube covers cut down on rainout in the *hose*.

possibly by cutting down on the rainout in the hose, more of the moisture is making it to the mask.

I live in Wisconsin - cold is normal here. Actually, except for the moisture in the mask, I love sleeping under warm down blankets.

If you remove the mask before turning the machine off, it will instantly ramp the blower up to full speed in a vain attempt to maintain your set pressure. If there is moisture in the hose, then this will pick up a lot of water and blow it out, making it feel like the mask is spitting on you.

To avoid this, turn the machine off first, then remove the mask.

The cover is probably helping reduce the amount of rainout in the hose, but it won't always eliminate it - it's just added insulation, and not very much at that, so for users with high humidity settings and/or particularly cold rooms, it won't eliminate rainout. So I don't think the cover is adding to the issue, if anything it should be helping.

As others have suggested, make sure the machine is lower than the mask, and that the hose has a slope going to the machine without any dips or loops where moisture could settle. This should also help because any significant moisture will drain away, rather than sitting in a tiny puddle waiting for the blast of air when you remove the mask.

that is pretty warm, but everyone's different I guess.

But yea if the airs set at 82, the rooms 65 - id say it would water up

I use the REMZZ over my nose and it does a decent job of collecting the moisture. Before REMZZ, I'd get seeming puddles.

I use the Respironics TrueBlue and Wisp nasal masks. I also use a full face mask, but don't have REMZZ for it.
