Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
Re: Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
Thanks. I didn't realise there was a newer version.
This has fixed the duplication problem! It's also moved some data around - the data I posted before on the 27th Jan is now on 28th Jan.
The time is now correct too!
But it's still incorrectly reporting the APAP vs CPAP setting. Last night was APAP 7 to 10 (I've just checked again ) but it's coming up as CPAP Fixed at 10.

We've got the data, and may be able to figure out why it's doing that.johnrrr wrote:Thanks. I didn't realise there was a newer version.

Is there anything from my data that suggests why I may not be getting a lower number?

Re: Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
I can understand you wanting that number, <1.......I did too. It took me 6 months and 3 different machines to get from AHI 0f 21 to <5 most nights. Then over time my AHI dropped to <2 without any machine adjustments. Fast forward 3+ years. ChicagoGranny stated that a cervical collar prevented the head from flopping forward and cutting off the airway. Well 8 days ago, I tried it and it worked for me. My AHI is now <1 and my OA's, 6 of those nights, have been ZERO. So I can say, YES it is possible for you to get your AHI to <1. It's a process and remember, in the mean time, < than 2 is really good.johnrrr wrote:Thanks Izzati. Yes, I'm wondering if its to do with position. I'll try a second pillow tonight. I also suffer from lots of movement at night (my partner tells me anyway).izzati wrote:Daily AHI sometimes depend on your sleep position.
Some people had less AHI at lateral position
Like me,i have more ahi on supine position
And when i propped up during sleep,AHI will be less
My doctor once told me i am at my best if i sleep right lateral position.
Probably your AHI of 2.2 means(lowest for you) occurs when you sleep at your best position
But still anything below 5 is good providing you feel ok.
I certainly feel a lot better than I did before treatment, no question. But not 'perfect' and just see a lot of people getting 1 or less and just wonder if there's something else going on (maybe the restlessness?)
Thanks

your pressure is too low... raise the max and see where the machine wants to take you to prevent your apneas and hypopneas.johnrrr wrote:Is there anything from my data that suggests why I may not be getting a lower number?

should I set it to the full max of 20 to test?palerider wrote:your pressure is too low... raise the max and see where the machine wants to take you to prevent your apneas and hypopneas.johnrrr wrote:Is there anything from my data that suggests why I may not be getting a lower number?

Re: Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
I would. generally, if your lower pressure is set high enough, the higher pressure doesn't matter becuase the machine won't ever go there, becuase it'll take care of your events, and then stop raising pressure.johnrrr wrote:should I set it to the full max of 20 to test?palerider wrote:your pressure is too low... raise the max and see where the machine wants to take you to prevent your apneas and hypopneas.johnrrr wrote:Is there anything from my data that suggests why I may not be getting a lower number?

it's the quickest way to get a better idea of what pressures you need.

Re: Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
Here's my (composite) screenshot from last night. It's a bit strange...
My AHI for last night was 3.04.
Normally I max out at whatever the max setting is I have, ie if I set 7-10, it goes to 10, if I set 7-15, it works up to 15 etc
But last night, at 7-20, it never went past 11 (and it was only at 11 for 2 minutes). Most of the night it was at 7.
I did make a change to my pillows last night as per izzati's advice, and slept with two pillows instead of one. Maybe that had an affect?
Another recent change (since a week ago) is I turned the humidifier off. Last week on a trip I used my (smaller) hospital supplied non-humidifier machine (fixed at 7) and my throat was fine the next morning so I decided to turn it off on my ICON when I got back, and I've not noticed a difference in results nor a sore throat etc.
One worrying thing though - looking at the data I noticed SenseAwake was on - this is a common problem with my ICON.
I NEVER turn it on (I tried it when I first got it). But sometimes it turns itself on for some reason?!
I wonder if this could be causing problems? If it falsely thinks I'm waking up and then turns the pressure down, would that cause a problem? Although looking at the data, it seemed it only did it when the pressure was already at the lowest level of 7..?
The fact it turns itself on is worrying. I'm wondering if I should try to find the firmware for it (ideally an update!) and reflash it.

the pillow change could very well have helped open up your airway and thus you needed less pressure.johnrrr wrote:Here's my (composite) screenshot from last night. It's a bit strange...

I'd bump the min pressure up, and leave the max where it is for now.
re SA.. one of the things that Jedimark grumbles about concerning Icons is that they appear to be poorly shielded against interference, he says that even a cell phone next to them can cause them to corrupt the data. if so, it might make the machine change settings too.

Interesting about the interference. I do keep my two mobiles next to the machine. I'll try moving them away a bit. Very strange though!

Re: Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
I would do as PaleRider said. Bump up the minimum pressure. The lady who helped me most on here said sometimes an increase in the minimum pressure might help to head off any obstructive events BEFORE they happen. Where is the machine bumps your pressure up to deal with them AFTER they happen. So you want to find that minimum pressure that eliminates as many events as possible, without being too uncomfortable for you to deal with night after night.
The only thing I would add is try to evaluate your results from each change over several nights. Each individual night is different, with many factors involved, so you want to see an average over time to see if your new settings accomplish the desired results.

Re: Will I ever get a better AHI? Best is 2.2 or so?
Thanks Murdock63. The advice about keeping it the same for a few nights is interesting because last night, after changing up from 7 to 9 min, keeping 20 max, I had a bad night with a LOT of leaks.Mudrock63 wrote:I would do as PaleRider said. Was it because of the pressure? Or something else? Who knows. But it did get very uncomfortable and as you can see from the (composite) screenshot, the pressure ended up at the max for a large part of the night. I woke several times to readjust the mask.
I guess I should try again and see what happens tonight.
Palerider - is there anyway to get a 'screenshot' of the entire view? I use a macbook so the resolution is quite small so to get everything on I'm having to take multiple screenshots and combine them. Thanks.
