Looking for suggestions on next mask to try

Post by Dancers Need Sleep! » Wed Mar 02, 2016 12:25 pm

I'm having a bit of trouble with my current mask, and I'd rather crowdsource some ideas than rely on my DME, who hasn't impressed me with his keen enthusiasm so far.

I started out with a DreamMask, medium frame and small nose piece. It was a bit too loose and I had a lot of trouble with leaks. I went back to my DME who ordered a small frame for me and gave me a Wisp mask.

I find the small nose piece on the Wisp to be a bit claustrophobic; I feel the air swirling around my nose as I breathe. The large nose piece is much better. But unfortunately, both of them leak, the large more so of course, unless I tighten the head gear so much that the outer corners of the nose piece leave deep red dents in my face.

The problem is that my cheekbones are fairly prominent, and so the creases from the corners of my nose to the corners of my mouth are deeper than usual. So any nose piece that crosses over those creases is going to have this issue; for the most part that's where the leaks are happening.

The small DreamMask frame should be here any day but I don't have high hopes for it (my head is not small, so I expect it will be too small) and I want to get started on figuring out what to request next.

Thanks!

I like my airfit P10, but it may bit the same way over your cheekbones? The pad a cheek barrel cozie helped a lot with leaks for me, might help for you.

For a "custom" fit nasal mask, I recommend that you give the boil-and-fit, Profile Lite a try. It was my favorite up until I started to mouth breathe and had to resort to a FF mask. I really wish my current masks were as cheap as this one is ! Good luck.

Thanks to you both! I will add these to the list.

The small DreamMask frame arrived (funny, it was postmarked the day I emailed my DME to ask why it hadn't arrived yet...) and as I feared, it was too small.
