First Night Results - Think I Found My Sweet Spot

Post by FoggyFroggy » Sun Feb 21, 2016 11:43 am

Good morning everyone!

Had my first night with APAP last night. All in all, it was a pretty decent night. I don't feel like I got enough sleep, but I felt more alert this morning than I have in a year.

I struggled with the mask quite a bit but I believe it's just a matter of adjusting to having something strapped to my face and not a fit issue(?) I did toss and turn quite a bit and was conscious of the mask blowing air every time I turned to the side. This required a mask adjustment until I felt no leaks but perhaps this becomes habitual and doesn't require arousal once adjusted.

I did not struggle with the pressure at all after the initial minute or two of turning on the machine. This was a relief to me as I was concerned it might be an issue...

I have posted an image/link below. Hope it works! If I am interpreting it correctly, it shows that my pressure was above 9 for most of the night and at the max of 10 more than 95% of the time. Although I had zero AHI, should I adjust my low pressure up from 8 and adjust my high pressure up from 10? Not sure I should mess with a perfect score.

I appreciate this forum so much! If it weren't for the plethora of information I have gleaned here, I would still be waiting for my doctor/insurance company/DME to herd me through their respective systems. I have already waited 3 months from the date of my diagnostic study just to get a script. I would be waiting another 1-2 months if it wasn't for your advice. So, thank you all so much for your willingness to give of your time here to help others!

I feel like Dreamwear is kind of tricky. I actually don't know when it is on right and when it isn't. The RT told me to put on the nose first and then adjust, which helps. Of course a few little leaks here and there aren't so bad.

I wouldn't change anything at this point, just get use to your mask. Since you had no events your machine increased pressure due to Flow Limitations and that graph doesn't show but the amts listed on the left don't look large so I wouldn't worry about anything now. It looks good.

I'd contemplate going to 9-11. but no hurry.

I agree those look like good settings for the next step if the screenshots remain the same.

I know, right? I was shocked and actually questioned if I even have OSA... and then had a little fantasy about mixed up lab results.

Will leave things as they are and hope for continued good results.

well, nice fantasy, but I'm guessing it's more a matter of you taking to cpap like your avatar is taking to that... desk?

Good afternoon y'all!

Well, I no longer have a perfect zero score. In fact, I've gone up a little each night. The thing that seems to arouse me the most is the mask leaking every time I move as well as a dry-as-the-desert open mouth. My hair is so slippery that I have to pull the headgear down in the back quite often, even with it under my ponytail. I have the mask so tight in order to not leak every time I move that I have marks on my face for most of the morning. Not sure the Dreamwear is the mask for me but I like it better than the tickly Wisp I used during titration. I may try to rig something to keep the strap down and my big trap shut.

If you guys would take a look at my screenshots and let me know if I should tweak anything or let it ride, I would appreciate it. Also let me know if my screenshots need tweaking. I think I've followed all of the instructions well, but not sure.

I still feel more alert than I used to even though I'm waking up several times throughout the night. Wahoo!

Like you know your AHI is great for a new person. Even the most optimized therapy will have some events. So far you are only briefly reaching your max pressure of 10. If I was going to try anything it would be to raise the minimum to 9, since you are there and above most of the night, and maximum to 11 and see what it does it wouldn't hurt since it's only going to increase pressure if it sees a need. There's certainly no big hurry to do that though and if you want to let it ride and evaluate a few more days that's ok also.

perfect scores are rare. even without changing anything, your nights sleep will vary from night to night.

as long as you've got good numbers (for me, mostly anything under 2, preferably 1.5) you'll probably feel about the same, when the numbers start getting worse, then you may feel less rested in the morning, and need to adjust.

for now, I'd call the numbers a success... now if you can figure out how to make the mask work better for you (that is often the hard part for many people)

HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!!

Feeling really great this morning and had the best night yet last night! It would not have happened without the wisdom and advise of y'all! Thank you!!!

I have found that if I allow the headgear on the Dreamwear mask to stay in the slipped-up position (right under my ponytail) and adjust it from there, I don't wake up with leaks and have to pull it back down constantly. Wahoo!

I did adjust the pressures up from 8-10 to 9-11. I never reached 11 so I think this may be my sweet spot.
