Good cheap home sleep study?

Post by FlyingMoose » Tue Feb 23, 2016 11:22 am

I had an in-lab sleep study and also a titration about a year ago. It showed that I have borderline sleep apnea (AHI of 10, I think if it was 9 I wouldn't have been diagnosed), and no other sleep disorders. I have been on CPAP therapy since then.

I have since had nasal surgery, which the doctor said may help with OSA. I tried a couple of nights with my machine set on 4, and the AHI didn't increase (it's usually around 2). I'd really like to know what my score would be without CPAP.

I have high-deductible insurance, so if I had another in-lab study, I'd still have to pay for it. Also, I like the idea of doing a study for 3 or more nights instead of just 1, because my sleep varies from night to night and I think a longer-term average would be more useful.

So, what company do you guys here recommend for a good but cheap home sleep study?

I never had a sleep study due to finances so I bought a used machine and figured out enough on my own, but if I had known about this company and that it can both be done by mail and for such a reasonable price I probably would have skipped a few meals to make it happen:

I do not personally know the owner other than he is TheLankyLefty on youtube. He comes across as genuine and sincere helping people both on youtube and on the forum he runs.

Do not believe a word I say until Pugsy or PaleRider has had a chance to review!

My husband and I each had home sleep studies through Watermark, now Sleepmed as Cigna would not pay for in lab studies or titration. These were covered at 90%, despite deductible not being met.
The total charge per person (each a 2 night test) was $350 so our responsibility was $35 per test.
The ARES monitor is sent to you, with clear instructions and video. The report was very detailed, showing
sleep stages, O2 levels, position, etc.
Good luck!

Mild OSA AHI is 5 to 15 so 5 would be boderline. Hope the nasal surgery has made the difference for you. Since even at the minimal pressure of 4 there is some treatment the repeat test is a good idea.
