Leaks

Post by Stormynights » Sun Feb 21, 2016 8:21 pm

I guess this is more rant than anything because I don't think there is any help for me. I have never had a mask that didn't leak and I have tried so many and they all leak. The last mask I got was the dreamwear. I thought it might work but maybe I got the wrong size cushion. I got the medium and I think maybe I should have gotten the small. I am tired of spending so much money trying masks and I hate seeing Mr Frowny's ugly red face. I have tried full face, hybrids, nasal, and pillows. They all leak. I pretty much accepted the fact that I would always have leaks but now I am starting to get that urge to get fanatical again. I have been looking at the Amara but I am not sure that would give me any hope it is just one I haven't tried yet. I had a total face but gave it away before I tried it out. Pillow type masks don't cause face farts I hate that more than Mr. Frowny. I tried the Pilaro and it only came with the thin strap headgear at the time I got it. I think I need a mask that completely covers my head with a bungee cord around my neck. I don't think that would leak.

The obvious (but what the hell):

Do you lie down when trying on FF masks? Makes quite a difference.

Have you ever tried taping?

What about the Total Life (full coverage)?

Or liners?

I have tried all of those. I did give my total face mask away right after I got it because a woman was looking for a mask for her brother and thought he might like one of those.

Stormynights,
Have you tried the Hybrid FFM. Has nasal pillows, with a much smaller mouth seal area. Kit comes w/three sizes cushions & pillows. Also, has a chin flap, so no chin strap is required. Link is in my equip list below. Hope you find what works for you.
Regards,
otrpu

Seems like there are only two other choices that can maybe help you.
You maybe need a hair net to help keep the mask in place and also a different pillow to help keep the straps from shifting on you.
I find when I get a haircut I do not have to many issues with leakage because the hair is shorter, I think it helps keep the straps from moving so much.
Just my two cents worth.

Stormy,

I had the same problems with every mask I tried. With ASV, my pressures go to 25 every night, so I have a party on my face each night. After trying so many different masks, I thought I'd try different headgear. In desperation I tried this one:

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/softca ... onics.html

Respironics Blue Mesh Softcap.

This was a game changer for me. I can now wear all those masks I tried without experiencing leaks. My go-to mask is the Quattro FX, so I had to re-angle the top straps downwards slightly. I also used the Amara View, The Hybrid, and the Total Face with no issues.

My DME swaps out the headgear that comes with a mask for the Blue Mesh Softcap headgear whenever I get a new mask. I have no extra expense outside of my first experiment.

The only thing I haven't tried is the one Palerider posted. The caps the Hybrid and I have a good pillow. I had problems before I started using the ASV machine. I tried fixed pressure and still leaks. I am a very restless sleeper so that must be my problem. I just think that if I can get the leaks settled down maybe I will settle down.
