Humidity level or Machine level?

Hi-

I have been struggling with very dry nose and at times it is painful. Last night I turned up my humidity level to 6 (Manual over ride from 4). My nose feels GREAT this morning! So obviously I want to try and keep my humidity higher than my machine recommends.

The problem is that multiple times during the night I heard gurgling from hose and a couple times I got full on water up my nose, which is not pleasant and causes me to tear my mask off.

I found this in another thread, but it was an older thread, I was wondering what other options I had.

Hi, I believe that bag might be more suitable for travelling vs nightly use, and there are other answers... do you have your machine on something lower than yourself (water won't run uphill)? Are you using a heated (or Climateline) hose - that can also help.

Sorry, yes it is a heated hose, it is approximately on the same level as my mattress, maybe a little lower, but only an inch or two.

I use that hose holder and it helps with rainout. I've seen way more expensive ones, but that one works great for me. I also bought one of the hose covers that metsfan302 makes and that is what totally seemed to stop the showers up my nose

Add a nice soft fleece cover over the top of your heated hose, and condensation will not be a problem. Having the hose rise from the machine is a good idea. I use a lanyard to hold the hose on the headboard, and it makes moving around easier too.

If you are using the heated hose with a Resmed machine, it does not show you a setting for the humidifier when it is on auto, so I am not sure what you mean about manually overriding it from 4. The way to use the hose for maximum humidity is to set the climate control to auto, and the temperature to manual (I don't know what the auto temperature does). In this mode, the machine will set it to 85% humidity which is as high as you can go and still not get rainout. Set the temperature to your preference. The higher the temperature, the more moisture will be in the air.

Actually I take it back about the auto temperature. I do know what it does, but I have trouble believing it. It sets the temp to 80 F. I don't know why the machine just doesn't start out at 80 F as the default setting, and leave the auto option out of it.

With your machine and the heated hose you have the option of using Auto climate or Manual. You actually have more flexibility with manual because you can set the humidity and tube temperature separate. The Manual settings go from 1 to 8 and the tube temperature can be set from 60 degrees to 86 degrees. I did fine with the Auto setting until this winter with the fireplace and have had to increase mine to the maximum. Play with the tube temperature make it a little warmer and see if that helps.
