Sleeping Pill Poll

Post by mouthbreather72 » Sun Jan 17, 2016 7:41 pm

I've been on CPAP for 4 years. When I was first diagnosed, the sleep specialist said I had a very bad case, which I already knew because I was waking up every 45 minutes or so choking to death, and suggested I get a prescription for sleeping pills along with my new machine.

I declined the sleeping pills and honestly though this doctor was insane. Why would you give sleeping pills to someone who stops breathing while they are sleeping? The choking wakes you, but if you are drugged up you might die in your sleep.

Were you offered sleeping pills by your doctor and do you take them?

I was offered pills by my primary care physician. I declined because I don't think I need them and I can't take them with my job anyway. Getting to sleep is not the problem. It's the quality of sleep.

Yeah, falling asleep was not a problem for me either. The doctor said they would make me stay asleep after the fact. As soon as the cpap machine kept me from choking, I pretty much stayed asleep on my own.

The only time I have ever taken a sleeping pill was for my sleep study and my titration study.

Reasonable questions.

1. No and

2. No, not ever.

When I was in the hospital for knee surgery (motorcycle accident--46 years ago),
The nurse woke me up to take a SLEEPING PILL, I told her to STUFF IT!
Later, I complained to my doctor. My problem was staying awake.
I probably had OSA then.

I have rather severe sleep problems falling asleep. When I turned 65, I started having problems staying asleep. Sleeping pills help kind of for both. I don't take every night. But I do take them sometimes.

Hell yeah I take sleeping pills! The one I took earlier didn't help, obviously, but I do need them. I don't give a damn about being addicted or anything like that.

Because they don't do bleep for me, I rarely take them. But last night, after my ^^&&&$$ neighbor woke me playing loud music at 11:20pm, I finally decided to take a Temazepam. I think the last time I took one was about two months ago . Slept about 4 hours and had to double my normal caffeine intake to feel even somewhat normal.
