Recording Pulse Oximeter vs. Smartwatch

Post by Ronin » Wed Dec 23, 2015 9:56 am

Good day everyone!
In the past, i owned a recording pulse oximeter, the type that slips over your finger, and the led light would gauge your oxygen levels, through fingernail, whilst sleeping, to determine when an apnea event was occuring and told you your oxygen levels.
So, this is my question,,does anyone have any experience with a smartwatch, like the Fitbit Charge HR, that if you wear it all night, are you able to wake in the morning and read out your recorded pulse rate from the previous nights sleep???
I assume, that with the printed or read out chart of the entire night, when you have an apnea episode, you will be able to see it via the increased heart rate whilst sleeping.

I use the Microsoft Band which does record heart rate over night. The report is not detailed enough to see apnea episodes though.
It does count awakenings and arousals to some extent but not enough for accurately measuring AHI for example.

The data from the CPAP would be required for that.

This is an interesting topic!

I had a Fitbit flex. It helped in a subtle way. It improved my sleep hygiene. I went to bed earlier and slept longer. It didn't measure hr

It was recalled. I don't have it now. I would like to replace it. The Microsoft band is interesting!

Yes it does, but in a different display.
Here is last night and I remember most of the awakes - rotten sleep

And here is the heart rate graph:

Other views are available as well as a download .CSV or spreadsheet file of all the data.

Edit: As you can see, the level of detail for the heart data does not compare with that obtained from a pulse oximeter but it is useful.
