Low iron and apnea
Re: Low iron and apnea
Although a bronchoscopy will reveal anything like that. Hopefully we get some answers
Re: Low iron and apnea
When is it scheduled?
Re: Low iron and apnea
For now January 12 because both dlctors are out of town. I asked if we could schedule it with different doctors, but our pulmo doc said that if he required surgery the ENT we would be working with would probably do it. Since we already have a relationship with her and she did the prior scope, he wants to stick with her. He did say that day we will be told the findings and treatment options. He said theyd both sit down with me immediately after. He said the options are CPAP, surgery, or possibly additional ox which won't fix the problem he said, or surgery

Your child is an infant and I am a senior adult. My anemia problems cleared after abdominal surgery on the colon for a small tumor (benign). Moral of the story - apnea might be playing a role, but the anemia may very well have a different cause. Careful on giving iron without a Rx/dr. recommendation. It can mess up digestion and not all forms are absorbed well. Best wishes to you and your baby.

Our doctor did prescribe iron for him. My son had some GI issues that no one could figure out. I wonder now if that was related to low iron. I really liked the GI we recently saw. I may follow up with him to see if there's some sort of additional testing. Thanks for the idea
Re: Low iron and apnea
Low iron is related to restless legs syndrome, not so much apnea (I have anemia issues). If his iron is dangerously low, I'm surprised the doc didn't send him to the hospital. My advice is to take him to a children's hospital to have him evaluated immediately. Pills work too slowly if, as you say, the pediatrician says it's dangerously low.Tmatt80 wrote:He's not. I'm not sure if I said before...he's 14 months old.
I'm going to get him a multivitamin tomorrow as well as an all natural supplement that some other moms recommended. I read where apnea can be caused by low iron, but I also read that the apnea could be throwing off the iron levels because of the blood ox dipping. I wonder if low iron even makes apnea more dangerous since there's less ox in the blood to begin with?

Re: Low iron and apnea
Regardless of the cause, the apnea should be treated. It is causing other issues and should be addressed.
