Numbers look good. Overly tired feeling.

Post by Chuck Connors » Fri Dec 18, 2015 4:53 pm

I know that there are many factors that can have an effect on sleep, such as a good mask fit, low leakage, diet, medication, number of hours slept, alcohol, etc..

My AHI is less than 1, leakage is low, no alcohol, exercise regularly, sleeping 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 hours each night, yet by the time the afternoon comes around, fatigue starts to set in and I feel like I need to take a 30 minute nap. I understand everyone is different and there are many factors involved, but who has experienced this and how did you resolve the issue? Thanks.

Not everything's about OSA or Cpap. Go see your MD and get tested for things like Vit D levels, thyroid, hormone levels etc. etc. etc.

Thank you, Julie. The areas you mentioned all checked out fine and have been eliminated as possible causes.

I had good AHI numbers on my APAP but I started to feel pretty tired again. When we looked at my charts, a different picture emerged. My pressures were "flat lining" at the top, meaning they wanted to go higher than the setting would allow. While my AHI's were under control, the charts made it clear that I needed more pressure. A modest adjustment was all it took to restore my good feelings.

So if you haven't accessed your data via Sleepyhead yet, it might be good to take a look.

Sleepyhead is a must - it works wonderfully with your machine. As everybody else has said there's so much more to feeling rested than just getting the adequate number of therapy hours of sleep (quasi-sleep?). You seem to be aware of other factors in feeling rested but I'd start with the software and then keep a written log of your wake-ups, times of sleep etc. Also per day note how much caffeine you consume, recreational drugs, any meds especially decongestants, cold meds, cough meds etc. Naturally ailments and disease can affect sleep, so seeing your doctor again might be in order, tho it sounds like you've already had some tests but you don't say which ones... believe me there's hundreds . You're just going to have to dig deeper into tangential causes if Sleepyhead confirms you are getting enough decent sleep. Come back and let us know what's happening.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I've had the same issues. My TSH was in the "normal" range but trending upward. When it got over 4, my endocrinologist started treating it. I know the "subclinical hypothyroidism" thing is controversial, but for me, anyway, it made a noticeable difference to daytime sleepiness. I still have hot flashes and neurological mystery crap to solve, but it's a step in the right direction. You might want to talk to your doc about how your TSH is trending, and perhaps other thyroid issues.
