Re: Getting a bit lost/disillusioned/frustrated
Are you using software like Sleepyhead to monitor your own therapy?
I've known and I'm sure others have known educated, knowledgeable idiots, too.

Re: Getting a bit lost/disillusioned/frustrated
I have sleepyhead -- I just don't know what I'd be looking for in this case.
And I definitely wouldn't go so far as calling the doc an "idiot" -- I'm sure he's had a lot of experience under his belt and he's been nice/helpful. I just am a bit miffed that he doesn't seem that motivated to get the number down more...when his own specialty's accepted AHI for "normal range" is < 5.

I'm not sure what's useful. Here's one night from last week:

Re: Getting a bit lost/disillusioned/frustrated
Simbalion, I think your doctor has it backward. ASV is the gold standard for centrals, while ST is appropriate for people that have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), people that have neuromuscular diseases and people that suffer from obesity hypoventilation. The ASV or AutoSV is used for the treatment of Complex Sleep Apnea (CompSA), otherwise referred to as CPAP induced central sleep apnea (CSA), periodic breathing such as Cheyne-Stokes Respiration.
The devices have a lot of similarities, but the spontaneous timed machines intervene with a triggered breath based on set timed breaths per minute, while ASV has an adaptive algorithm that can feel much more natural. Most members that have used ASV on this forum, including several that self-treat and use ASV rather than CPAP or bilevel, find it to be a very comfortable and effective therapy. ST, not so much. The timing has to be dead nuts, and it is perhaps not ideal for those without restrictive lung disease or morbid obesity.
