cleaning humidifiers

Post by jess928 » Tue Aug 22, 2006 3:51 pm

Does anyone know of a humidifier with a chamber that will come apart to be cleaned? Right now it is a huge pain to clean my humidifier b/c I have to fill it with disinfectant and soak it, rather than just being able to open it up and scrub the inside. i have the FP HC150. Any suggestions?

The instructions on my ResMed S8 just says to wash out with warm water and "pure soap" once a week. It's pretty easy. No need to take it apart. I imagine germs are germs and what works for one brand would work for another. I imagine a lot of those instructions are written by lawyers rather than clinicians with actual data.

If you use distilled water like you are supposed too, whats going to get dirty?

You have two filters on the input side, six foot of hose pressurized on the other, just dump and rinse daily or weekly, whatever traffic bares.

If that's not good enough, a little vinegar in the rinse water will fix it up. Jim

If you really insist on taking the humidifier apart to clean it, the REMstar will meet your needs.

It has a metal bottom which comes apart from the molded plastic sides/top. The manual says it can be safely run thru the dishwasher, though I've never tired that. (I figure it would likely shorten the life of the gasket.) I do, however, take it apart for cleaning because I feel it is easier to rinse thoroughly that way.
