ASV How can I solve this problem?
ASV How can I solve this problem?
One and half years into ASV treatment for complex apnea. AHI usually around 1-2 most nights with occasional wild swings. My problem centers around occasional nights that for whatever reason I wake up around 3-4am and the machine is breathing hard for me. But once I am clearly awake, the darn machine keeps breathing fast and hard and does not settle back into its usual soft cpap. I wait and wait but it doesn't calm down. My lowest pressure is 4 so there is no ramp feature to activate. Sometimes it just won't stop so I say screw it and take the mask off because it won't let me get back to sleep. Any of you ASV users ever have this experience? Dang thing seems to have a mind of its own. Cheers.

I've seen that a few times, I just restart it seems to come back to "normal"

I agree, just turn it off and then back on.

Re: ASV How can I solve this problem?
The Trilogy did that to me in the early days. I'd wake up to almost maximum pressure (27+) and my mask blowing off my face. And it wouldn't stop when I woke up.
Same thing -- turn it off, give it a second and turn it back on.

Re: ASV How can I solve this problem?
One would think that these ASV machines would reduce the pressure rather quickly once we wake up but despite their increasing pressures rather rapidly they don't drop the pressures as quickly as they raise them.
It takes some time for the machine to re-figure the breathing and decide what to do. It has to learn your breathing pattern all over again and it simply takes some time. How much time I don't know but the easiest way to fix the issue is do like what people here are saying...just turn it off and back on again and force it to be starting out at a lower pressure again.
It will eventually lower the pressure while awake but it is going to take a lot longer than we want or expect.

I agree here. The Trilogy hasn't done it to me in YEARS. I think Pugsy has nailed it (as always... ) and that it just needs time to learn your breathing patterns.Pugsy wrote:One would think that these ASV machines would reduce the pressure rather quickly once we wake up but despite their increasing pressures rather rapidly they don't drop the pressures as quickly as they raise them.

Re: ASV How can I solve this problem?
I will pile on.
When mine did that in the early days, I would breath very strongly against what the machine was trying to do until it complied with my breathing pattern. Way to much effort. Now it seldom happens, but I simply turn it off and back on, everything goes back to normal.

Re: ASV How can I solve this problem?
Pressing the ramp button *usually* does the trick for me, but sometimes its pace is so crazy that I have to turn the whole thing off and back on.
You may need to enable ramp, though.

Thanks everyone!! I give it a try next time it happens. It is maddening when it does this and I can't get back to sleep.
