first 2 weeks with cpap

Post by anton69 » Mon Nov 23, 2015 6:17 am

After years of heavy snoring and exhaustion, having tried many over-the-counter anti-snoring solutions and MRA, I’m on CPAP since almost 2 weeks. According to the sleep study my AHI is 15. I usually slept through the night and had some dreams as well, but was really tired all day.

I have a Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset which fortunately is really silent. I tried an Airfit P10 pillow mask the first few days, but got a sore nose with skin irritation after 3 days.

I switched to a F&P Eson nasal mask which gives less problems. I do have the skin above my nose irritated (dry and red) by the mask, which is clearly visible for others If this won’t go away, I might switch back and forth to the pillow mask every few days.

Sleeping goes ok, snoring is completely gone and my AHI is now between 0.6 and 1.6. I also have much more vivid dreams and when my alarm goes off I typically am still heavily dreaming and have difficulties waking up the first hour.

I suppose the dreaming is a good sign, but so far no improvement in my exhaustion and fogginess. I hoped cpap would give instant improvement, but hopefully I will notice some improvement over time.

Welcome to the forum.

How many hours of sleep are you getting?
Are those hours fragmented with multiple wake ups?
Do you take any meds of any kind?

Use Lansinoh for a few days and the skin irritation will go away. It is made for breast feeding mothers and is found in the baby section of most stores and drugstores.

Julie, like his post says he's had it for 2 weeks. I consider that pretty new. His other posts were questions that a new user would ask. So I think he is looking in the right direction.

I've talked to a sleep expert. He says that it takes at least 6 months to see any symptom resolution.

My note was meant for the poster who said 'welcome to the forum', no one else.

Yeah...I guess you just can please some people no matter what you do.
Doesn't surprise me considering the source. If that's all she can bitch about I guess I should consider myself blessed. I don't bother reading what she writes (Foe list and all that) and since you quoted something it got my curiosity up so I took a peek. I guess it's more important to dig at me than help someone. She can't pass up an opportunity to get a dig in since she is the unofficial forum etiquette police and all that.

I couldn't remember if I ever welcomed this person to the forum or not and decided to err on the side of caution. I know that I often just start asking questions and bypass the "welcome" and I didn't want to do that here.
So I just now looked here in his first thread and yep....I got right down to asking questions and forgot my manners.

We need to know if he is getting enough quality hours of sleep and if he is on any meds that might be contributing to the unwanted symptoms...and that's why I asked those questions.

Oh, I got it. But I can't understand why you would derail a new person's thread for personal reasons. If Pugsy bothers you so much put her on the foe list and then you don't have to see or make unnecessary comments.
