Need a chinstrap that doesn't pinch ears

Post by tuzacat » Fri Nov 20, 2015 2:58 pm

I am looking for a chinstrap that doesn't hurt my ears. Anything that touches them makes my ears very painful after a while. I am using the Deluxe white chinstrap but I have to fold it so that it doesn't touch my ears - not exactly comfortable but better than having it on my ears. The Ruby one which bypasses the ears makes my jaw hurt. Sadly, even though I use a full face mask I still need to use a chinstrap or I get chipmunk cheeks which either will wake me or prevent me from falling asleep. Can anyone recommend something they have had success with which bypasses the ears? Sometimes you can't tell from the photographs. Thanks! Tuza

I use the PAPcap. The chinstrap applies pressure more vertical than most other straps. Does not touch my ears. Does not make my jaw hurt. Search for it on cpap.com

I haven't needed a chinstrap for years, buy, when I did, I used the PapCap......much more comfortable than others.

Thanks, LSAT and POPPI2, I tried the Papcap years ago but it was too big for me and slid all over the place. I don't know of it comes in sizes now, but, I gotta tell you less is more to me. It might be too much for me.

I just went through several myself.
I tried a generic Ruby, a real ruby L and XL. Each one irritated me in some way.
Finally tried a Respironics premium chin strap. It was the only one that I was able to leave on all night and it did not irritate me. Also it was the cheapest of the bunch from Amazon.

Thanks, ver2go, I had wondered about that one but I wasn't sure if it would bypass the ears. You can pour a lot of money into chinstraps. Are you able to avoid your ears all together with that one? Tuza

Yes, there is no ear contact with the respironics. Think of it as wrapping an Ace bandage around your head to keep your mouth shut (it's not wide enough to get to your ear). The there is a support strap that slides up and down a slit in the wrap. You can move that strap above your ear, then bring it to the opposite to velcro in place.

If you're in the US and an Amazon Prime member, the chin strap is only $10.xx from Amazon. They have very good return policies too.

I have this strap, which I split about an inch above my ears, like my P10 headgear,
But years earlier. Light, small, and stays in place, with my mod.

Thanks, Chunky! I take it it doesn't unravel when you split it?
