Replacing machine - Respironics or Resmed?

Replacing machine - Respironics or Resmed?

I've been happily using 3 different Respironics machines for about 10 years now. The power connection on my System One is getting unreliable, plus it's 5 years old. My local DME, Lincare, is really promoting Resmed machines, but I'm hesitant as I like the 12V power for Respironics because I camp a lot and run on a battery probably 20-30 nights a year. I know I could go with an inverter, use my home cord and switch to Resmed, but again, I'm bullheaded.

I've noticed a friend's Resmed is noticeably quieter, but that's not much of an issue as I'm single. I'd like to hear from experienced users who have tried both. Is the therapy delivered enough different to worry about?? I'm static pressure @ 13.5.

Have you tried to get a different power connector? I would think that would be a less expensive place to start.
But, having been one to advocate for having multiple backup machines, I'd also suggest exploring an additional machine.

You didn't say if you were using exhale relief ( A/C-Flex ), but at a straight pressure with similar settings, either brand should deliver very similar results. If cost is an issue, the ResMed machines are a bit higher priced.

Good luck with your choice (if there IS one). I have a sneaking suspicion which way you're leaning........

I just got a new PR System One and adore it.

- super quiet: almost can't tell it's on
- goes dark: they've changed it so it really is dark after initial "get settled in" period is over
- easy to read info: easy to access AHI for the nite and average for the week etc.

and best:
- my AHI is super low!!!

Before that, I had the Respironics M series. I didn't respond well to the ResMed algorithm.

Can you test drive the 2 and see what you prefer?

You can certainly work around resmed's 24V problem. However PR's 12V is much easier to deal with. I have a very portable battery setup which would be impossible with a resmed.

Thanks to those who have responded!! I feel compelled to vent about this, as you folks understand!!

Yesterday, I called my doctor's clinic and asked for a prescription for a machine. I told them it was having mechanical troubles. I forgot to tell them much more. I waited for the call with questions, but it never happened. By this afternoon, I figured I needed to check on it. I typed up a little letter detailing the power cord problems and that there were no other issues. I also reminded them the script needed to to show the pressure setting. (Even though that is easily changed, eh?!!!!) I'm looking at a System One Pro with the Auto trial, which I figured would appeal to the Doc when she tries to address concerns about my therapy and how it related to other medical concerns. She does respond well to my submitting nocturnal O2 info periodically.

When the front desk gal looked it up, it seems the Doc wanted to know what was wrong with my machine, the hose, the mask, ....What???!!! She also had instructed a nurse to check to see if I was eligible for a new machine by my insurance, then check with the only DME in town to set it all up. The file was then closed by the nurse!! No action!

WELL, I was incensed. I had started by checking with my insurance. I've been eligible for 3 years. I had checked with 3 online providers on prices. The local DME couldn't help because she was out of town for these past 2 days then she'll be on vacation the next week. (Lincare at it's best).

I'm shocked and pissed that I never got a phone call during all this. I delivered my letter at 2:30 today. I can hardly wait to see if it did any good!!! the doctors clinic is tied to our hospital and I bet I'm in the hospital administrator's office by noon tomorrow!!!

Thanks to all those who have listened. I just needed to get it off my chest!!
