Sleeping Much Better

Post by rockncountry101 » Wed Nov 11, 2015 1:16 pm

My story began in May when I had a sleep test. After many restless nights of CPAP therapy I finally found the right mask. I went several months using my therapy. I never felt any better. I also had been on a LOT of medicine. (20mg of Lexapro and 2 mg of Xanax) I slowly weaned myself off of all the medication and stopped using the CPAP machine. I now sleep like a baby. After discussing it with my doctor we decided that I probably don't have sleep apnea. Now I have a $1,000 machine that I paid cash for since the insurance didn't help me. What can I do with this machine? Can I sell it to anyone? Is there a market for used machines? Thanks.

Hi rockcountry101,

I would get a sleep study to make sure you don't have sleep apnea before you even think of selling your machine. Without it, you and your doctor can't conclude you don't have the condition.

I agree with 49er.
And, since you have that "investment" in your equipment, you might as well hang onto it. Things can change in the future.

When I had my original sleep test my AHI was 4.7. So low in fact that the insurance company wouldn't even pay for my equipment. My RHI was 9.5. It seemed borderline to begin with. I've also lost weight.

Yes there is a market for used machines but you take a big hit on what you paid depending on how many hours you used it.
You can try craigslist and maybe get a little more for it than you would from the forum members here...we are pretty much all notorious tightwads.

I wondered about how you were doing...your AHI on the diagnostic sleep study was already so low that you didn't meet diagnosis criteria. Your issues were related to meds and not OSA and the cpap machine only fixes sleep apnea stuff...not med stuff.

You do have one of the latest and greatest models...so that will help the value.
If it doesn't have many hours you can check with secondwindcpap.com and see what they will offer for it but be prepared...they buy wholesale and sell retail. Depending on what they offer you might do a little better on your own either here or on craigslist.
