i badly need a Cpap and I live in Dubai,UAE.

Post by thawaz » Sun Nov 08, 2015 4:40 am

Hello All!

I'm so happy to see a website just to help people on Cpap related queries. My old Cpap had to die, to know the existence of such website.

I live in UAE, Dubai to be precise. I previously used S8 AutoSet Spirit™ II for past 6 years, now that it has died and I badly need a new one immediately.

Kindly provide advise on three things:

1) I came across an agent in Dubai (found on Google) he quoted me Resmed Cpap (2 variants) which is way too expensive compared to what is priced by manufacturer themselves.
ResMed S9 Escape Auto™ 4,900dhs ($ 1334)
ResMed AirSense™ 10 AutoSet™ 5,900dhs ($ 1606)
I've no idea what to do and I'm completely lost. Can someone advise what I should do? Is there anyone here who could help getting me this device (Genuine and Cheaper) in UAE?

2) my second concern is I need suggestions on model suitable for me. I'm technically weak when it comes to the specification of these devices, but I can surely tell you that my only purpose is SOUND SLEEP, that's it! I was very happy with the device I used earlier (S8 AutoSet Spirit™ II), now that this model is discontinued i can take device with closer specification of my old device.

3) Is there any service center in UAE wherein I could repair my old device?

I'm equally thankful and grateful to all helping me out here.

regards,
thawaz

The only advise I can offer is to stay away from any Resmed machine that says "Escape". The machine offers NO data. Check the box and machine thoroughly for the word "Escape" before you purchase.

I also live in a foreign country, Panama. I just got a US doctor's prescription and ordered over the internet from Cpap.com. I also ran into the problem of services and machines being too expensive here. Do you have a valid prescription? Do you have a reliable mailing service? Do you know what customs fees you might encounter. Sometimes the reason why these machines are so expensive overseas is because the Governments impose large customs fees on medical equipment and any supplier who sells it to you there will have to import the machine and pay the fee.

I use Mailboxes Etc. for my shipping and did not have to pay customs. But if I used other mailing services or the Panamanian Post Office, I would have been charged 25% for the customs fees. Is there any way you could travel to the US to buy one and then get it back into the UAE?

I would also checkout Secondwindcpap.com. They have gently used and openbox new machines.
Since you are used to an Auto machine and a Resmed I would look at
1. Resmed Airsense 10 Autoset or (the For Her model, even if you are a man, it has an extra algorithm that might come in handy if needed).
2. Respironics Auto model 560 (you might find a 550 earlier model)
With both models I would also want a heated humidifier and heated hose. The humidifier is part of the Airsense but a separate unit of the 560. The heated hoses are extra for both.
Either of these machines are full data capable so you can download software and see from the SD card if you are having leaks and how your therapy is working.

Dear Sheriff,
Thank you so much for your reply. I got worried because your reply popped up just after i made up my mind to purchase ResMed S9 Escape and I kind of got lost again.

as previously stated I had s8 autoset for past 6 years and all these years i never used it to gather data of any forms but used it to only to get sound sleep.

besides gathering data do you have any other drawbacks to share. once again thankyou for your reply.

I don't know your settings on your S8 AutoSet but if you were using the auto adjusting pressure mode (apap) the S9 Escape can't do anything except fixed cpap pressure.
So not only does the Escape not offer data...it can't do apap mode either.
Now if you were using fixed cpap mode on the S8 AutoSet then the S9 Escape will do the same thing (minus any data) as the only mode of operation available on the S9 Escape is fixed CPAP mode.
Now there is a S9 Escape Auto model and it does have apap mode available but again no real useful data plus it uses the older technology auto algorithm. The S9 machines with full data like the Elite or the AutoSet use a newer/better algorithm in how it deals with apnea events.

I'm thankful to all out here who has volunteered to help me out. there is a lot i studied from this thread alone.

I've made up my mind for S9 AutoSet since it has better algorithm and failed to find 'should buy' factor in AirSense 10 AutoSet.

However I'm open to suggestions and opinions until I place my order. Is there anyone here who could change my mind?

thank you all.

I think people were so set on steering you away from the Escape that they forgot to endorse the Airsense 10 Autoset, but they should have as it's a much better and newer machine (see all on Cpap.com)!

This is the only comprehensive comparison that I've seen from a user of both the S9 and Airsense models...

https://sleep.tnet.com/equipment/cpapma ... e-aircurve

Personally, the S9's will be less expensive and I don't see a huge advantage to the Airsense model over the S9 versions and in some cases some reasons to not go that way.

Koby, you can get replacement parts for any part of the mask (including headgear) by going to the top right side of the product page for any mask on Cpap.com. Mr. Thawaz is long gone from the forum. But the company name is Resmed.
