1) I couldn't. I started before cpap of planting my tongue on the roof of my mouth (for drooling reasons) and I was fine with mouth breathing for a short time. But I think as I was sleeping better I was relaxing and the tongue didn't stay. Tried chinstraps, denture cream, and tape. Tape DID work but I didn't enjoy it. I ended up having to go the full face mask route. Your results may be different than mine.Lauperfan wrote:finished my first week (and still hate it, don't sleep, etc.)Questions:1. Since the nasal pillow masks are essentially like snorkeling with your nose, how do you keep your mouth closed all night? When mine drops open, I wake up startled with the air blowing out of my mouth. Makes me feel like I'm gonna choke. Do I need to add a chin strap (yet another annoyance)? Did you eventually just "learn" to keep your mouth shut as many hours as possible at night?2. I keep my unit about 6 inches from my pillow, but the tubes still dangle/pull when I roll over. Solutions? My headboard is way too high to drape them over.3. I have considerable chafing/soreness only on my right nostril. Is this from the pulling/tugging or something else? Does it just go away eventually?I'm sure there are more, but thank you!
2) As far as the tubing... what I use and love: I found some cable straps (like the 3M command hooks only for drop cords)... I feed the first few feet horizontal, and the same level to the center of my bed. Then I use the cozy hoze boss (it looks like 2 of those retractable badge clip holder things) about 2 feet above my pillow. This setup worked great for all of my mask trials with the lighter tubing--if it doesn't have the featherweight attachment I forego the cozy hoze boss. I found that the climateline hose on it's own was too heavy and awkward for the retractors.
3) Someone suggested Lansinoh, and that was my savior while I was using the P10. For me it wasn't from the tugging, as much as just something foreign.. most (not all) of my soreness was on the outside of my nose, but nightly Lansinoh really helped me.
