Waking up at night

Post by davep700 » Mon Nov 02, 2015 11:27 am

Hello

I am trying to get working with my CPAP therapy but haven't gone past 2 to 3 hours per night .

I get up and need to remove the mask to use the bathroom, drink water, etc, but then I'm too sleepy to put it back on.

Any suggestions? Currently using a full face mask.

leave the mask on and disconnect the hose. Drink water using a straw. Adapt and train yourself to use what you need to keep your health.

That doesn't make sense.
If you're awake enough to use the bathroom, drink water, etc.......you're awake enough to put the mask back on when you get back in bed.

Please fill out your profile with the exact equipment and settings you're using.
Are you using software like Sleepyhead? If not, get it and use it. There may be some information in the reports that may help you optimize your therapy.

My nighttime bathroom breaks ended, after my therapy was optimized.

None of us are believing the "Too tired to put the mask back on" thing. Sorry. Although, I am not sure if it is a daylight savings time glitch, but it looks like I went a full hour without my mask on Saturday night. It's very strange because I have no memory of removing it.

Early on in my treatment my utter exhaustion and sudden onset of sleep caused problems when masking up. I first tried forcing myself to never lay down before putting the mask on but that wasn't enough. I've been known to just sit down on the edge of the bed and wake up hours later still sitting there. So until this period passed in a few months my rule was to always mask up while still standing - no exceptions. Just got to figure out what works for you that forces you to do what you know you need to do. Gotta outsmart yourself. Mastering this is your best chance of getting to the point where some of that dire exhaustion is relieved. These days I mask up sitting on the bed and I'm fine. Still have the NEVER rule about laying down first. You'll figure it out.

I never lay down until my machine has reached its operating pressure. If I don't have a good seal sitting up, I know there is no way it will seal when I lay down. If I get up during the night, I turn the machine off and remove the house from the mask. When I get back in bed, I connect the house to the mask and turn on the machine.

Good points.

It must be that I Can't find a way to sleep on my side. The mask and hose are in the way. After 2 hours on my back I need to change position.
