hopeless?

Post by sleepypirate555 » Sat Aug 19, 2006 10:15 am

So I got my cpap 5 weeks ago. I am only feeling worse and worse every day! I can't even read a friggin book because my focus is soooooo gone. In the 5.5-6 years that I KNOW I've had osa, I've seen 8 doctors (pre diagnosis) about how I feel exhausted. I kept being told "lets do some blood work" , I'd get my hopes up, and then they'd say "everything looks normal". Ahhhh! After my life is less than a fraction of what it was, finally! A diagnosis! Then treatment, then feeling worse! I thought that I'd be awake enuf to enjoy my hubby and I's 1st anniversary, but I'm too exhausted to do anything! 2 days ago my doc gave me provigil. The sleep doc recomended a 3rd sleep study (which in her one phone call with me she didn't even mention)to look for mild narcolepsy as well as sleep apnea! Are you kidding me !?!? My normal doc gave me the provigil, and I'm not having the sleep study, not anytime soon at least. I have so many medical bills already, I need to pay some before getting more!
I feel like every time I get my hopes up for a cause (and treatment) for my daytime exhaustion, something else happens! Ack!

Does anyone else just want to give up? It seems comical how inept my previous doctors were, then the multiple disorders. My "luck" with medical stuff is so bad it"s laughable! Ahhhhhh!

Ps: still having trouble leaving replies, thanx 2 u all!

Do you have a downloadable cpap that would have treatment effectiveness data? Do you have a copy of the sleep studies? The first thing to do is to see if the machine is controlling your sleep disordered breathing.

I consider my primary care physician to be very good and quite thorough but OSA even slipped pass him until I told him my wife had witnessed seeing me gasp for air during my sleep then he measured the circumference of my neck and referred me to the sleep specialists … all a two-month history from that point.

I can't record data (though I'd LOVE to!). I have to call the sleep lab tomorrow and complain (again) to get them to send the titration study over. Ack! But I'm sleeping soundly (no more waking up every hour or so), my shoulders and neck are sore cause I'm staying in 1 position all night! Except last night when I apparently pulled the mask up over my head and slept thru the alarm for leaks! Oh well! I just want some treatment to work! I don't care which one!

You have listed that you are using the REMstar Pro 2 C-Flex CPAP Machine as well as the software, are you sure you can't record data?

Ummmmm. I don't understand, either. As Bob said, you've listed a REMstar Pro 2 in your profile and the Encore Pro software. If this is in fact the case, then you DO have the recording capability and can review your sleep statistics.

What makes you think that your therapy is NOT working? I don't recall very many people claiming to have an immediate restoration of their pre-apnea health. This affliction didn't occur over night and the recovery won't be over night, either.

You haven't told us very much, other than you're not recovering as fast as you thought you should be

What's your pressure set to?
Are you using C-Flex? And what setting?
How many hours of sleep are you getting?
Are you getting up during the night?

Please give us some more information.

Well, I can see how many nights i've slept with the cpap for more than 4 hours. That's it. If there is a way to know more (and the dme just left that part out) I'd love to do that! I sleep with the cpap for 8+ hours every night, I am still trying to get the sleep lab to send the titration study. So I have no idea if it's working. It's not that I'm not feeling anything, I'm feeling worse! I'm not waking up at night anymore, but I'm feeling worse and worse every day! I can't even read my book anymore because I keep forgetting what I was looking at!

sleepypirate555,

I would strongly suggest that you purchase the following package from CPAP.COM.
You will be able to read the data card in your machine and monitor your therapy. Your titration study will only tell you what happened the night that it was done (which will be of some historic value). You need to know what's happening EVERY night. It's possible that something isn't set or working right and you need to find out what it is.

I started on cpap in june. Fot the first 2-3 weeks all I did was sleep and I was always tired. Now I still get tired in the afternoons but if I try to nap my mind won't let me. I feel much better on cpap but it took time. just hang in there and be patient. Pat
