Waking with headache that goes away quickly

Post by NMchop » Tue Oct 27, 2015 5:55 pm

I woke up a couple of times while sleeping with painful headaches.

After waking and noticing the headache (I should note I'm a day sleeper lately due to routine), I noted a very dry mouth. (I use a full face mask, mouth breather here I'm told and it's obviously true) I took care of that getting that rectified as quick as I could. The headache seemed to subside quickly after being awake and I nodded back off. And I awoke later, same thing.

This happened two or three times that I noticed last night and has been occurring the last couple of days.

I checked my data on sleepyhead after waking up expecting it to enlighten me, but there was nothing there of any significance. I expected bad leaks or a rough night. The data showed neither.

I had a .43 AHI with no major leaks. I scanned the Flow graph but I don't really know what I'm looking at there. But didn't see anything to be too alarmed about. I was thinking I'd maybe find an un-scored apnea or two. I did see some apnea like events that were un-scored but not a bunch of them. And I'm not sure they were apnea like events.

Because of the headache the day before, I had turned the humidity level up to 4 for my latest Cpap session.

Now that I'm up and moving, I don't have a major headache.

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I'm going to make a doctor appointment if it happens again tomorrow but just looking for some thoughts.

Are your settings on the low side? I wonder if a little nudge to the low one might help.

I'm at 14.

One of my theories is when i sleep on my side maybe the pillow is covering the vent hole or something? Longshot but I'm having trouble figuring it out.

I was going to ask if there's any possibility your vent holes get blocked but I see you're already in tune to that. Any chance your mask straps are too tight across the lower back of your head? I can't use masks with low straps for that reason. Good luck figuring this out.

I have had headaches in the morning and talked with my Doctor about them, he said they are caused by CO2 levels being too high. Blocked vents could do that. I would think that you are getting enough air with a pressure of 14, 4 maybe, but 14 should not cause a problem.

I use a BiLevel and can set the time for exhale, mine was set too short for my slow breathing while I am asleep and it was cutting off my inhale. I was not taking a full breath so I retained CO2.
Sleeping MUCH better now

I've got a pretty basic CPAP machine, not sure what I can do settings wise. Thanks for the input.

at 14, i've had to strap the mask straps on tighter then I like. I will try to con side that as well.

Not sure what solutions there are but I have two different mask brands/headgear setup.

A simplus medium and a Fit F10 large (i'm in between sizes in the F10 it appear, large is too big but better then the medium which is too small in my opinion).

The vent on the F10 is in a different location. Worth a shot and the headgear is different too.
