Is this NORMAL?

Post by Goofy Lady » Fri Oct 16, 2015 9:29 am

Thanks to everyone yesterday for your help.
I did use it while watching tv and then I actually fell asleep last night with it on for 2 hours. I dont remember why I took it off. But this is improvement.

Question: My pressure number is 14, and when I would exhale, the mask would some how release air and it was going into my eyes. I think that's what woke me up.
I have a Quattro fx lady full face mask, is this normal or did I not have mask on correctly?
Oh, my machine said the mask was good!
So, thats why im confused.

Yes pretty normal with that mask I'd say. I don't have the lady version but do have an extra small quattro. You can dial it (if it has a dial? not sure if that version does) or use the straps to stop the leaking. However, at 14 it might be hard to do with that mask. I have trouble keeping mine from leaking with a pressure around 9 most of the night. Turn your machine on with no ramp or auto, just straight 14, and adjust the mask so it will be adjusted for the highest pressure. Also I noticed I have to have it so it's not touching the pillow at all or it will leak. I got one of those contour pillows and sleep with my head right at the edge so the mask isn't touching the pillow. Far less leaks that way.

Nevermind I see it doesn't have a dial. You might try the mask I have in an extra small if you can't get that one adjusted.

Does your mask fit the same all the way around?
If not, it may tend to rock, (like almost any full face mask does on me.)
Even at a measly 9 cm, I get leaks at either the top or the bottom--FULL TIME!
The only full face mask I have EVER been able to use is the P-R Comfortgel Blue.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pr-com ... -mask.html
Other masks have too little cushioning for my face, but the gel is very deep.
It is a heavy mask, but it may fit you.

You may want to check out this newer mask

Amara View Full Face CPAP Mask with Headgear
or
DreamWear Nasal CPAP Mask with Headgear - Fit Pack (All Cushions Included with Medium Frame)

they have only been around for a couple weeks, but look interesting.

For me the QFX can handle higher pressures. Mine goes up to 25 almost every night. I found the QFX headgear to be too flimsy for higher pressures. As an experiment, I tried the Respironics Blue Mesh headgear https://www.cpap.com/productpage/softca ... onics.html and it was so much better, that I always order that headgear instead of the one that comes with the mask. I have one for my F10, Hybrid, and FitLife. It really made a difference in comfort and leak control for me.

Warning, I tried the Amara View, and it will not work on a petite nose.
Even the "small" is sized for a substantial honker--I wish they made an extra small.
