Severe bloating

Post by mahler » Thu Oct 01, 2015 6:24 pm

Hi everyone!

My therapy is going very well, started a little over a week ago and feel fantastic.

My fiancée, however...not doing so hot. He got his S10 yesterday and after sleeping for an hour he wakes up with extremely painful bloating. The machine is pumping his stomach full of air.

He went for the full face mask. I'm wondering if he may do better with a nasal mask like I have?

Anyone have any similar experiences that found a solution?

Thanks for any tips!

Here's a link to a forum search on "aerophagia" for you to do some reading. That's what it probably is.

Why did he go for a FFM? Does his mouth open when sleeping? Did the sleep technician recommend one because his mouth was opening during the sleep study? Those are the reasons for using a FFM.

People who use nasal masks also have bloating problems (aerophagia or gastric insufflation).

What position is he sleeping in? I have some aerophagia when sleeping on my sides, but none on my back. But this will vary with individuals.

Are you guys using Sleepyhead to monitor your therapy and optimize your machine settings? Most of the regulars here would not do without it.
