Most of these out patient procedures don't involve being "knocked out" at all. We are usually in sort of a relaxed twilight state but still technically awake and breathing on our own. We just don't remember anything because part of the drug cocktail we are given contains an amnesiac. We might have been screaming in pain or telling dirty jokes or divulging some intimate secrets....and simply don't remember it.

I had a fractured wrist surgically pinned (nerve block) as out patient and don't remember anything about the procedure but they said I was wide awake during the whole thing and spent all the time trying to talk the doctor into letting me mow the yard with a cast on. At least I didn't tell him any dirty jokes or secret fantasies.

They don't call it the "I don't care what you do to me drug" for no reason. We don't care and we don't remember it anyway.

Due to medical concerns, the anesthesia resident I met with before my septoplasty said I should not be given versed as a preop med prior to my Septoplasty. I did fine by the way listening to guided imagery sessions before the surgery.

Anyway, I still didn't remember the surgery, thankfully. But all jokes aside, I am kind of glad I remembered everything leading up to the surgery and afterwards. Even the 5 hour wait in the recovery room waiting for a room which fortunately was a minor annoyance since I had my tech toys.

I know this may sound strange to this board but in the past, when given Versed, I found it creepy not to have remembered anything even though I know I was awake. I guess if my experience had not been pleasant pre and post operatively, then I probably would have had a different viewpoint.

That little 10 second euphoria after the IV drug starts in makes the whole experience worth while. I wish they'd legalize that stuff, I'd walk around with an IV 24/7.

I'm planning on having Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy scan my guts with a Tricorder when it is time for me to have a colonoscopy. My uncle, who is obviously a sadist, said his was fun.

I think that's a Keith Richards quote. Amazing he's still alive. BTW... I watched my whole colonoscopy and it was kinda interesting, but then I like stuff like UK's Peep Show, so there you go. What kept me awake was the nurse grabbing my abdomen and pulling/pushing so that the scope could make the turns. I yelped 'ouch' once and they upped my dose of pain killers quite a bit. Oddly I remembered everything tho it wasn't unpleasant (I did tell them I used a CPAP machine so maybe they were lo-balling my drugs).

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

That's one of the reasons why I explicitly asked for heavy sedation, I didn't want to remember anything; but I didn't want to be intubated. When I heard they were only offering Versed for it, I rolled my eyes. "Conscious sedation... you won't remember a thing." I knew better than this, so my first experience with this procedure was a breeze, unlike the bronchoscopy I got a few years back, which was very traumatic; coughing uncontrollably for 20 minutes; doctor kept telling me to calm down, I was trying to remain calm but squirting water into my lung and suctioning didn't feel right, even if they passed the tube up and through my nose. My recommendation for anyone undergoing this procedure: if you are bothered by the idea of the procedure or remembering painful/discomforting moments, I would highly recommend a higher level of sedation depending on your overall health. Just my two cents.
