I bought a VPAP on ebay for $500 but instead of receiving the VPAP, I got a S7 Lightweight. The seller did not ask for a Rx. I understand that it is not legal to sell a CPAP unless the buyer has a prescription.

You should really see a physician and be tested. Sleep apnea is not something you want to treat yourself.

A night in a professional sleep lab will best determine if you actually have sleep apnea, and if so what type (there are several different kinds).

Also, in addition to the mask you will need the blower and perhaps other equipment to treat your particular type of sleep apnea.

The equipment needs to be tested and the air flow monitored so that you re getting the right treatment. In some cases where the oxygen levels drop really low you may need air and o2.

I am sure if it's a matter of cost, talk to your physican about it. They have many resources (including partients that are upgrading or changing equipment all the time, or suppliers who take equipment),plus could advise you the pros and cons of buying equipment unseen.

Used Machines...

I bought a used machine off eBay for $100 no prescription requested. It worked like a charm. The problem for you is that you'll have no idea what hte pressure setting should be to optimally treat your Sleep apnea. It's probably not a good idea to use a machine unless you know what pressure to use.

You should check around and see if there is some sort of insurance available for people in your area that don't have insurance, they might pay for the test and buy a machine. Otherwise you should save up for the test, maybe the clinic might have a used machine or loaner you could use.

Good Luck.

Ebay will not auction a cpap since it is a medical device that must have a prescription to be dispensed. Sometimes auctions slip by, but most internet companies monitor internet auction sites religiously. Several other readers here have given very good advice. Have the sleep study, get a prescription and find a provider for your particular needs. I would not trust what you see on internet auction sites that is medical.

OR, a good APAP with software, and a intelligent operator can do the same job for less than the cost of a sleep study.

This is not the accepted way, but if I didn't have insurance, it would be my way. Jim

Yahoo Auction is the place to buy and sell xPAP machines. The 'law' you are referring to, is stupid. I say curling irons are more dangerous than xPAP machines....If you can't sell or trade your old xPAP machine, what happens when you die? Are you susposed to be buried in it? ..dumb..stupid..dumb..
