OT: Facebook Privacy Hoax - AGAIN

Post by archangle » Mon Sep 28, 2015 9:55 pm

If you see a notice about Facebook charging for privacy, it's a HOAX!!!

If you see something about a notice to post to Facebook to keep them from using your data, that notice has NO legal status whatsoever.

Please, Google stuff like this before repeating it. Anything that says "copy this everywhere" is probably a hoax.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dont-fall-f ... oax-again/

Normally, I wouldn't post this here, but if I don't, someone else will post the hoax.

Actually, I'll be surprised if someone doesn't post it anyway.

from a facebook friend
Facebook will begin stealing your undergarments at midnight tonight if you don't copy & paste this message in the next 37 seconds, forward it to everyone in your mailing list, print a hard copy for your grandmother & call your third grade teacher. This is real. I got the message first hand from Elvis who was having lunch with Bigfoot, while riding the Loch Ness monster. It was even on the inside back cover of every tabloid in the grocery store checkout line. Not only will Facebook start charging you tomorrow, they are also going to bill your credit card for the past 3 years of services. Luckily, each person who copies & pastes this status will receive a FREE unicorn in the mail tomorrow. However, if you don't repost this status, Facebook code has been set up to automatically set your computer on fire & harm an innocent bunny in the forest! It's all true, it was on the news! It's official!

Good to know I am not the only one who has gullible, brainless FB friends. I really should kick them out.

My cousin demonstrated her gullibility for hoaxes like this yesterday. I guess it explains why she ended up in a shotgun wedding after graduating from high school. I love the free unicorn in the mail post! My cousin would probably take the day off from work so that she can feed and water her unicorn as soon as it arrives.

It's the gullibility virus. It makes you believe everything you read on the internet.

Did you know that "gullible" isn't in the dictionary?

I solved those problems preemptively........I've never joined/used FB or Twitter or other "social medias".
THIS forum is about all I can handle.

Oh gosh, FB has been a wonderful thing in my life since I retired. Many of my HS classmates were starting to retire and I did not know how to get in touch with them. FB opened them all up to me.

I live about a 90-minute drive from my hometown and started a quarterly classmates luncheon. It's amazing how many regulars we have now and occasionally we get people come in from hundreds of miles away. I also found a few who were living near me and we have been getting together for dinner with our wives.

Then I found out there was a loose group of men across several graduating classes that meets once a month for a Saturday morning breakfast. I won't miss making those 90-minute drives to have breakfast with these great old guys.

FB is also a good way to communicate with my fellow church members and keep up with everything that is going on. We have been able to identify sudden needs and provide help. The same is true for my neighborhood. I've been able to meet neighbors I never knew and do some things with them.

Then there is the news. I figured out the good news sources to subscribe to and have them in a separate newsfeed. This is replacing my expensive newspaper subscriptions.

The one disappointment is my work colleagues. I worked for a large corporation that was later sold piece by piece and dispersed far and wide. I do have friends all over the world but it is only a fraction of all the people I know.

Give FB a try. Just use some common sense in how you are dealing with it.
