Shift worker trying to meet insurance compliance
I got a new cpap machine and my insurance says i must have documented use of at least 4 hours in a 24 hour period for 31 consecutive days. The problem is that i work 12 hour night shifts and live an hour away from my work. Every night i work i fall out of compliance. I tryed resetting the time on the cpap machine but that doesnt work. I dont have time to get back on the cpap after 12 noon to clock hours before i leave for work at 5 pm. I do take a nap when i get home but the earliest i can get in bed is 9 a.m. , so i only get 3 hours clocked in the 24 hour period. ANY sugestions?, other then getting my husband to sleep with it on nights i work, but then he doesnt sleep. My kid refuses to sleep with it, UGH!

What is the full name and model of your machine (not just the brand)?

As Julie stated... please tell us what machine you have. You stated you "reset the time". When I would work nights, I would set the time I went to bed at 4 pm. I only did this to see my readings for the whole sleep period. Since the machine will "reset" at noon, and I woke up at 2 pm, the readings would only be for two hours. For a compliant issue, It won't matter. Even though the machine will reset at noon, any sleep that occurred before noon will still get recorded on the previous day. Clear as mud?

My wife, a retired night nurse of 30 some years, still keeps somewhat to her old night schedule. She often records sleep times of 4 AM to 7 AM and then 4 PM till 8 PM. Sleepyhead shows her with two distinct patches of sleep. She is still 100% compliant with typically 7 hours of sleep per 24 hour cycle. Sounds a bit like what you are describing....... I think?

Yes, the 24 hours begin and end at noon, whenever that is on the machine.
My machine is set a half hour off local time, right between DST and Standard time,
so when the time swaps, I don't have to.

It will all eventually even itself out in terms of hours of use during a 24 hour period.
It just won't be in consecutive hours. No rule that says it has to be consecutive hours...just total hours used within 24 hour period.
When you sleep past noon after going to bed at 9 AM (sounds like a ResMed machine since you say you have messed with the clock to try to fix things) the time before noon goes on the previous day...and the time after noon goes on today's day...then tomorrow when you go back to bed at 9 AM again...that time goes on today's usage and should kick add up to 4 hours or more.
It's easy to see using the software available what is going on with the shift work and hours used and not a big deal.

The 4 hours does not have have to be consecutive. You dont need to do anything with the time.
