Sleepyhead question

Post by Corky1121 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 8:23 am

Ok so last night I awoke after 90 minutes of sleep. I was awake for another 90 minutes watching TV trying to fall back. On sleepyhead for the 90 minutes I was awake it showed I had a snore, which was wrong. It showed pressure rose to 10 which it did not. And it showed I had AHI around 1.8. Why.

Maybe I don't need to pay attention to the software. Most nights I am sleeping but still waking feeling tired and stiff and in pain. But I may have lyme. And I do have fibro. So.
Diagnosed after home study with 37 obstructive Apneas. Indexed at 22 Per hour. Moderate Apnea. Have suffered migraines and waking up stiff and tired and at times with muscle spasms.

Corky, others will chime in with the same response probably. You need to ignore results gathered while awake. Awake breathing patterns and Sleep breathing patterns are very different. The problem is that the machines don't know whether you are awake or asleep and assume you are asleep when they are on. The awake breathing is scored as if you are asleep, which produces results that are false. Remember, it's called Sleep Apnea and Sleep Disordered Breathing. Labs do not score events while you are awake.

Also it's not the software. Sleepyhead only shows what the machine records.

Ok thank you. I'm not going to pay much attention to it unless I start having new sleep issues.

I'll believe the data over reports from someone dozing while watching tv. there were too many times I fell asleep watching tv, repeatedly, without any memory of falling asleep... I'd get kidded about being a 'bobble head', and swear I saw the whole show, but, watching it again, there'd be parts I missed.

it's more likely you dozed off and woke up again.

Good point! The machine doesn't know if the patient is awake or asleep and often the patient doesn't know either, even if they think they do!

Yet another example of why it's so important to have a fully data capable machine and actually look at the full data yourself.

BTW, if you see something really bad while awake CPAPing, it may mean something. The "snore" could be something like when you clear your throat or snort to clear stuff out of your nose.
