Best Cheap CPAP Machine?

Post by JonSnow » Mon Aug 10, 2015 11:08 am

ok i know that best and cheap should not go in the same sentence but I will be losing my CPAP machine some time this month because I lost my insurance as of the 1st. SO after sleeping 7 years on the couch because no one could stand my snoring and then going to the best 2 months I've had for a long time I will be back without a machine. So I must buy one of these myself. I dont really have a budget. What I mean is not that money is no issue is not I have no budget for this at the time but I really do need it to function. My AI/apnea index was 96 so yea I had it bad without a machine.

Now enough of the sad story the deal is I will need a machine. I currently have a brick and since I will have to buy a machine I might as well buy something worth it. I just don't have the $500 to $800 that I have seen most machines cost. I love my S9 in the fact that its not too noisy and gets the job done. I was thinking of getting the RESmart™ Auto CPAP by 3B Products, but after reading on here the noise complains make me think to pass on this one! So what would be a good machine to consider for someone on a budget?

Also when the DME calls me to tell me they're picking up my machine do they also pick up the tubing and mask? I would assume and hope since that's something personal that they leave me the tube and mask since that right there saves me about $100.00.

First, welcome to the forum.

You have options on purchasing a good machine (not another brick!) out-of-pocket at a reasonable price. You can go to http://www.secondwindcpap.com; they offer lightly-used, refurbished or new/open-box machines at reasonable prices (you'd need a prescription). Or if you're a savvy consumer, you can find some great deals on CraigsList or sites like it. (Just have to be diligent and cautious in a private-party sale.)
Also when the DME calls me to tell me they're picking up my machine do they also pick up the tubing and mask? I would assume and hope since that's something personal that they leave me the tube and mask since that right there saves me about $100.00.
I'm not sure how they'd work a return like this. You *would* think the mask and hose would be yours to keep, as they'll likely just throw them away if they take them back. (I'd hope they let you keep them). I guess it depends on how shitty your DME wants to be about it... Technically, your insurance paid for them, and if they (the DME) aren't going to be paid for them, then I guess it's their decision what happens to them.

Good luck!

P.S. You know nothing, JonSnow. (Sorry, I had to! )

they usually don't want the mask and hose back ... and I have seen some cases where the only want the blower ... I have purchase S9 humidifiers and power supply and cases on craigslist for people like you . that had the machine taken back

when the come just hand them the blower unit and see what they say

then you can purchase just the new or used blower
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Jon,
I bought my S9 Auto off my home town craigs list, low hours for 400 2 years ago. They're out there, just have to look. Also secondwindcpap has some good deals. Good luck.

Your first paragraph, bothers me, it sounds like you are missing the main point of XPAP treatment. Snoring is a symptom only, we treat Sleep Apnea, to live a better life with better health, period! Sleep Apnea, kills you a inch at a time, it's like Russian Roulette, you are waiting for the empty cylinder, but you know one has the final round in it. Best of luck, stay with it. I'll shut up for now as I'm sure others gave you locations and ways to get a reasonable was to get another XPAP, you might check with your ins or DME to see if you can get a bargain buyout, only if it's a full data machine and the price is right. Time for a laugh, the hose, mask, and HH should be yours. Jim
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

The mask, tubing and filters were purchases by your insurance company and you do NOT have to return them. They are yours to keep. (Your insurance company doesn't want them, either!).

In addition, most humidifiers are purchases, not rentals so you should be able to keep that as well (double check your paperwork or with your insurer--do NOT trust the DME to tell you the truth). So all you have to return is the blower unit. It is worth asking the DME if they will sell the one you have to you at a discounted rate--it's used and an older model besides, so it's not worth much to them anyway.

Because you probably already own the humidifier, all you will need to buy is the blower unit. You can find a used data capable blower that's compatible with your humidifier and save some money that way.

Are you in a state with Medicaid expansion? If so , you should not have to lose health insurance.

hey everyone thank you for all your responds. I never would have thought to look one up on craigslist. Some really great deals out there. Little worried about buying a used machine but I guess I should be me worried about dying from our condition. Ok so I am sold, going the craigslist route. Thanks everyone!

Are you offering any warranty (money back, etc)? I know it is new but would the manufacture warrant it if I purchased from you?

I have no provision to offer warrante ... I think you should be looking here :

https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... idair.html

however, I think that the company warrants 'em for two years after date of mfgr.... but you would have to deal with Resmed directly

Maybe warranty was the wrong word; do you stand behind what you sell or if it is junk is the buyer stuck with the purchase? I doubt Resmed will honor any warranty not purchased from a legitimate dealer but I bet you already know this. Stop saying they can deal with Resmed for a warranty, you know they will not honor it.
