Disrupted sleep and Alzheimer's?

Post by RogerSC » Wed Jul 22, 2015 2:04 am

Ran across this article yesterday...reminds me of a talk that I heard a while ago that suggested this same relationship. This makes treating sleep apnea even more important, if proven out:

Healthy sleep is also linked to memory. One study I read showed a link of stage2 sleep spindles to the transfer of short term memory to long term may oriels. Also REM stage is essentially when the brain defrays the memories and associates the long term knowledge to past memories.

And this is just the memory function of the brain....there are more functions of sleep depending on age, growth hormones, cel regeneration, emotional de-stressing, etc.

Funny, when I get 7-8 hours shut-eye is when I DON'T feel like the reason we never walk barefoot in the dog park!
Magic numbers, indeed. Four for the bean counters; eight for you.

Yes, Dr. Steven Park presented the talk that I mentioned that discussed relationships between sleep apnea and brain dysfunction. It was a very good talk, highly recommended, and is available here:

The bad news never seems to cease regarding Alzheimer's.. what an ugly disease. Several months ago there were a bunch of reports of common OTC and Rx meds that may be contributing factors. They included heart meds, cold and cough meds, even urinary tract meds, plus a number of others:

Personally,I expect more studies to eventually come out linking Alzheimer's to disrupted sleep. Time will tell.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
