Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
These types of exercises pop up on the forum every few months... as far as I'm aware, there doesn't appear to be much help for the average person with OSA or CSA. There may be a marginal individual or two who finds relief but off the top of my head, I can't remember anybody making a really convincing case. But, hey, try it for a week or two... the price is right and you probably won't lose that many more brain cells in the process. Just don't go down with a sinking ship.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Swearing is useless - a sleep test is what determines it.

Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
I've HAD a sleep study, two months ago…. I'm still without a CPAP. I went to the doctor today only for her to tell me she won't give me a CPAP without me having a second titration study because of something to do with my TBI and the wrong pressure triggering my brain to stop signaling my lungs to breath if a certain part of my brain was injured during my TBI. So I started googling and I'm trying to find tips and tricks that can improve my chances of having uninterrupted sleep…. until I can get a CPAP.
Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
My Sleep Apnea Exercises, put on mask, turn on XPAP, that's adjusted correctly, check data after sleeping, rinse and repeat!

It sounds like they want to do a titration for the ASV type machine. I don't think they can do both the regular and ASV in one night, so once they realized the regular machine wouldn't work well for you, they needed to go for the special machine. Most people don't need them, so it isn't the standard one to test. There are more variable settings, so they will need to find what works best for you. You might try asking the sleep lab if they can put you on a list for when somebody cancels, so that you can get in faster. I know there have been some people who have needed to work on their own settings, but it is more complicated. It would be helpful to have a good starting place from the lab. You might also start a new topic or add to the subject line ASV as there are some knowledgable people who may not open a generic thread, but will respond to an ASV thread. They know there aren't as many people using them, so they try to help anybody that needs their specific advice.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

They do want me to do a titration test to find out the pressure. She never said anything about type of machine and I'm not 100% clear on what ASV means…. that is, I don't have any clue what it means at all. :-\
Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
I think zoocrew thought that you'd already had one titration study. I understood (in your other thread) when you said "second titration study" that you meant a second study, which was to be the titration study, and that the first study was the diagnostic study. Did I get that right? If so, it's not time to worry about an ASV machine -- I imagine because of the TBI the doc is concerned that CPAP might trigger central apneas -- when your airway is nice and open but you're making no effort to breathe. Doc doesn't want to just send you home with an auto-adjusting (APAP) machine, which is now a very common alternative to an in-lab titration.
Sounds like they want to be able to keep an eye on you during the titration to make sure you're responding well and not having central apneas in response to the pressure from the CPAP.
To be honest it isn't very often that someone develops central apneas when starting CPAP therapy (called Complex Apnea), and if you had a full data CPAP machine you would know right away if centrals were starting to pop up. But I guess your doctor is exercising an abundance of caution by having you titrate in the lab.
Have you posted a copy of your sleep study in any of your other threads?

YES! Thank you, that is exactly what it is…. or at least I think.kaiasgram wrote:I think zoocrew thought that you'd already had one titration study. I had a study done, but she wants me to have a second study (she called it a titration study) so they can figure out my pressure. She said the wrong pressure would cause a Central Apnea episode without using those exact words. I agree with your assessment of my "doctor" using an abundance of caution…. but would prefer to use a different word beside caution.

Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
Sorry if I'm confusing…. TBI and lack of sleep don't exactly mix well.
Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
lol, you don't want to share the word you'd substitute for "caution?"Sleepless1 wrote:YES! OK, so forget about having Central Apnea, needing ASV and all that for now -- at this point there is no indication that it will be relevant for you. I explained some more in your other thread about the difference between having some central apnea events and having a primary diagnosis of Central Sleep Apnea...

The comments after the video were revealing. Almost all were either mindless endorsements
or promoting their own snake oil remedies. I will bookmark this for when I need an emetic.

As far as I know right now, the primary diagnosis (at least at this point) is Obstructive Sleep Apnea.kaiasgram wrote:

Re: Sleep Apnea Exercises?
It's incredibly aggravating when you can't get in for the sleep titration. I would call every couple of days and ask if there are any cancellations so that you can get in earlier. Be nice to the staff but make sure that they understand that you want the titration now instead of later. It may or may not work, but often the squeaky wheel gets attention.
As to sleep exercises, the link didn't work on my tablet. Most anti-apnea exercises only work for people with very mild OSA. From what I read, it takes about six weeks to see actual improvement.
