CPAP, apnea and eyesight
CPAP, apnea and eyesight
Does sleep apnea affect eyesight? My vision has gotten progressively worse in the past year. I already have had an eye exam this year and got bifocals. But now even distant things are blurry. I can tell its gotten worse in the past few months.

Re: CPAP, apnea and eyesight
I think you should have another exam, apnea doesn't affect your eyesight like this.

Rapid deterioration of your eyesight could be a symptom of something that needs attention NOW.

Make an appointment with an ophthalmologist.
As far as eye stuff, cpap can raise the pressure in your eye, but whether it can cause or worsen glaucoma, I don't know.

Re: CPAP, apnea and eyesight
Have you had your blood sugar and/or HbA1c tested recently? Prolonged high blood sugar can cause blurry vision, and not just from retinopathy; tissue in the lens can get glycated, absorb water differently, altering the properties of the lens. And sleep apnea can aggravate (or cause) metabolic problems.

Re: CPAP, apnea and eyesight
Thanks for the replies. Let me add too that although I have prescription bifocals, when I am at home I wear cheap reading glasses in front of the computer. I don't know how that will effect anything; the glasses thing is new to me.

Re: CPAP, apnea and eyesight
I believe that needing glasses is related to a major medical symptom that is unrelated to sleep apnea or CPAP.
