Djp, when this mask was new, (and this thread was too) there was some discussion that the fabric frame was defective.
Respironics was reported to have worked on fixing that, but who knows where that went?
You could have an "old" frame--or they never changed.

Still never had any problem with the fabric frame.
I do have a clear frame but have not tried it yet. I have switched to my old trusty Sleepweaver Elan for now, but I am very fickle when it comes to masks.

I had to buy mask parts to get around the requirement for a prescription. I got a silicone mask, but they included these soft fabric pieces that velcroed to the parts that touch your cheeks. Wonderfully comfortable.

I would go with the fabric. I had this at first and ordered replacement at 6 months from Apria, and they sent the hard on. I thought it was just upgraded, and used it. It was not only uncomfortable, but when I slept on my side it twisted my ear and I got Cauliflower Ear. Ouch, and stiches, pain and a few weeks later, called and asked for the fabric one after seeing here that both were available. Wish they had told me there was even a choice.!!!

The other question is that the fabric is reversible, and which do people prefer. I like the side most like fabric on my skin, but not much different, as long as its the soft fabric one and not the hard plastic.
