Open mouth? Swallow air?

Post by Hensbili » Fri Jun 05, 2015 4:32 pm

I only used my resmed air10 autopap for 3 short naps. In all 3 cases, i've been waking up from sensation of swallowing air. I'm not sure if I am swallowing air or opening my mouth a bit and havin air leak out. Any suggestions?

Fill out your equipment profile so we don't have to ask you what mask you are using and you don't have to tell us each time what machine you are using.

Now what mask are you using?

Why don't you try using the machine while you are awake to get used to it? Wearing it while watching tv or reading works for many people. After a while, you forget it's there.

And please fill out the equipment section of your profile so we can take your setup into consideration when replying to your posts.

Filled my equipment profile.

I really like the cpap. During my split night study, with cpap my ahi dropped from 129 to 4. The pressure prescribed was 9. But now that i'm using autopop, it is consistently 12+, earlier even went up to 18.

Are you sure you're not leaking/mouth breathing, etc? The machine will try to compensate by going higher if that happens.

What are your machine's pressure settings?

Are you getting dry mouth?

What is your energy level during the day and do you have any excess sleepiness?

What position are you sleeping In during your nap? On your back? Is your mouth dry?

Thanks for all the replies. My machine setting is 5-20. Ramp time is 20 minutes. I have since turned off ramp time coz i feel like i can hardly breathe during ramp time. Last night I slept well but then i took a,bien and klonopin. I'm still learning about leaks and stuff. I also read that sleepin on the side is better and since i can sleep eith way, i have since try to sleep sideways. I bought a transcend ez auto as well. That one iis set from 4-20. I feel like i can't breath with it. Going to try to figure out how to change ramp time.

It's not the ramp you have to change, but the low setting of 4 or 5... to at least 7 for a few days, then see how you feel. 4 is the default low setting for machines (+ 20 is the high) and so many apneas will not be dealt with by such low settings as it takes too long for the machine to reach the necessary levels. Forget the ramp entirely, big waste of time at those settings and all the time you're on ramp you're at less than useful pressures.

it would be better to encourage people to pull their data and see what the data says, instead of just recommending a pressure... maybe they only need 6... it's not very likely, but possible.

I just like to see what's happening before I feel comfortable suggesting a change might be all CSA, might need a lot more pressure, might be anything... I don't like to guess if I can help it.

I like your humility PR, is it a Saturday special, or just for our benefit?
