RESMED S10 AUTOSET QUESTIONS

Post by wolf911 » Mon May 18, 2015 6:17 pm

Anyone know about the data transfer thru the wireless connection on the unit. Can the wireless be turned off so it cant be accessed remotely by anyone. only thing i could find in the clinical manual about it was it states under the icon symbols that when the signal strengh bars are gray "Wireless data transfer not enabled" but i cant find a way to disable the wireless. Im assuming there must be a way to do it if it says that.

Also when setting the time period for the sleep report view does that have anything to do with how the data is stored on the SD card. What should that setting be on, 1 day , 1 week, etc. the default was 1 month.

Using airplane mode will prevent the device from transmitting any data anywhere.

The settings that you use to view the data on the LCD screen have zero impact on how the data is put on the SD card.

See this manual for how to turn off/on airplane mode.

yea i kinda just breezed over the "travel by air part" now it makes sense. no transmitting on a plane.

so if starting out should the sleep report be on 1 day for a quick glance in the morning and then just access the data thru sleephead for more detail after say a week

You can do whichever you want in terms on the data on the LCD screen. I have never bothered with it myself but part of that is because my first machines didn't offer much data on the LCD screen worth looking at and I had to use the software to see much of anything worthwhile. So I just got in the habit of never bothering with the LCD screen data but a lot of people are quite content with that data and there's nothing wrong with it.

There's more data available on your LCD screen than what was available for my way back then.
If your AHI is good (less than 5.0) and leak number (on screen is the 95% leak number which means for 95% of the night you were at or below that number) is within acceptable limits (like to see it less than 24 L/min on those ResMed machines)...then there's no urgent need to see the software detailed reports unless you are just curious.

when getting up at night for bathroom does a person hit the stop or just take the mask off and go. why im asking is does this affect the sleep report data like mask leak for the next day

If the machine is in the Smartsense mode and you take the mask off when you place it back on does it then just restart the same session or create a new session(as far as the data goes)

I set the thing for auto 7 min and 9 max and just laid down and breathed for about 20 minutes and i noticed that the pressure went to 9 and stayed there. my sleep report said 7 or 8 for pressure is awake somehow different than sleeping. sorry if these sound stupid just want to make sure i have the thing ready for my first night

Also got sleephead installed. seems to work ok. but ill have to play with it once i have some real data. the sleep tutorial and download page were helpful. thanks to whoever does that stuff

I take the mask off every time I get up. Autostart shuts the machine off quickly after I do that.

When I put the mask back on, the machine starts a new session. Sleepyhead can combine the sessions for a sleep night into a single day with Noon being the cut off.

Multiple sessions look like below in the bottom left the the sleepy head report (you can run off a session by clicking on the green/red bar next to each session).. If you turn off a session, the graph will only show the sessions still left on.

There are 3 sessions listed above.

You can also adjust Sleepyhead to ignore sessions which are too short, like < 10 mins. This is done in Preferences and is on the main general tab near the top of the settings.
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM
TNET Sleep Resource Pages - CPAP Machine Database

It's your choice. Whether just taking the mask off affects the sleep data depends on whether SmartStart is set to ON or not.

If SmartStart is set to ON, then your machine is set to turn itself off and on; and in this case, the machine should turn itself off a few seconds after you just yank the mask off. You might see a Large Leak scored when there's no breathing detected, but it won't be long enough to affect anything.

If you don't have SmartStart set to ON, the machine won't turn itself off, but after a few minutes, it will detect that there is no breathing going on. And the fact that the machine is ON, but there's no breathing being detected will show up in the way the "usage" hours are computed. And you may see a Large Leak or some other kind of flag during the time the machine is running, but the mask is not on your face.
If the machine is in the Smartsense mode and you take the mask off when you place it back on does it then just restart the same session or create a new session(as far as the data goes)
A session runs from the time the machine is turned on until it is turned off. There's nothing particularly wrong with having the data for a night split into two (or more) sessions---particularly if you're getting up at night to go to the bathroom. The nightly AHI, leak, and usage figures are based on the total usage from 12-noon to 12-noon.
I have to be honest: I'm not sure what you are talking about here.

Is your RAMP setting set to AUTO? And if so, what is the beginning ramp pressure? Note: The beginning ramp pressure is NOT the same as the minimum pressure setting when you are using AutoSet or AutoSet for Her mode.

The A10's have an auto ramp feature that is supposed to keep the pressure low until the machine thinks you have fallen asleep, and then it ramps the pressure up to the minimum pressure setting if you are using AutoSet or AutoSet for Her mode. But the only way the machine can detect "sleep" is by examining the flow rate. If the flow rate becomes very steady and very regular, the machine will assume that you are asleep, and then ramp the pressure up.

If you are NOT using the Ramp in AUTO ramp mode, then the machine is not going to try to figure out when you are and are not asleep. If you don't use the ramp at all, the pressure starts at your minimum pressure setting. But since wake breathing is often (but not always) less regular than sleep breathing, if you use the machine for 20 minutes while awake and your wake breathing looks like sleep disordered breathing, then the machine will respond by increasing the pressure. Small pauses in wake breathing can be misscored as Hs or FLs (or occasionally OAs), all of which can cause the machine to respond by increasing the pressure.

So to help us understand what you are talking about, you need to confirm the following settings on your machine:

Treatment mode is: AutoSet? AutoSet for Her? or CPAP?

Ramp is set to: Off, a fixed time, or Auto?

Beginning ramp pressure equals??

If running in AutoSet or AutoSet for Her, the minimum pressure is set to??

If running in AutoSet or AutoSet for Her, the maximum pressure is set to??

If running in CPAP mode, the pressure is set to???

thanks that helped. i found the preference tab and set it for 10min

ok i got the smartsense concept figured out

the machine is set to auto mode with 7 min pressure, 8 max pressure, and the ramp time was set to 5 minutes just to test but ill set it to auto ramp tonight. i changed the min ramp pressure from the default 4 to 5 pressure.

i was just curious why it went to the 9 max pressure just laying awake. it did ramp up over a 5 min period to the minium 7 pressure but then just kept going to the 9 max setpoint. there was no AHI or leaks or anything else in the test time. i guess ill find out tonight if it goes to the max and stays there.

also on sleepyhead it says under machine settings EPR full time and EPR level 1 but when i look at the machine it says EPR off, whats wrong there

anyone tell me how to do multiple quotes in one post from multipe people like i see so i dont have to just quote there whole post and clutter up the thread

the only way to tell would be to examine the data... a chart from sleepyhead for that period would probably answer the question. organized, screenshotted and posted as shown in these pages: https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize

probably a glitch in sleepyhead.

if you hit the quote button on any message, you can see the bbcode that makes the 'quoted' parts, and other things, show up.

well, if you want to know what happened last night with the pressure, load it into SH and post the page... otherwise, the best anybody can do is guess

My best guess is that the machine thought it was detecting flow limitations. The AutoSet algorithm can attack flow limitations pretty aggressively.
