Dear All,
I have sleep apnea and user a cpap with humidifier. My wife does not have apnea nor a device, but she experiencers chronic dehydration, especially in her sleep and especially in the winter. She has resorted to using many humidifiers in the home but it is hard to get the home sufficiently humid, and it requires refilling multiple large reservoirs once or twice per day.
So, I am wondering: Is there a device that can deliverer humidity to her directly through a mask while she sleeps, like mine, but without the CPAP action since she doesn't in fact have apnea? The logic is that it only takes a small amount of water to provide adequate humidity if it is pumped directly into your mouth and nose, whereas you need vastly more water to humidify multiple entire rooms.
Thanks!
JW

Does this happen only at night?
Or is it all day too?
Many of us are dehydrated without realizing it.
Have her keep track of how much water she drinks.
It might not be enough.

There are hard piped ductless whole-house humidifiers you can have installed.

Do you have a hydrometer in the house? With the use of 'many' humidifiers in your house you may be over humidifying and that could lead to issues with the growth of mold. Has your wife thought of using xylimelts at night? They help me a great deal with keeping my mouth from getting too dry overnight.rewaniw wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 10:44 pmDear All,

Let her try CPAP on low pressure.

Re: humidifier for someone WITHOUT apnea
Does she get "dehydrated" at night because she's a mouth breather?
If so, there are options:
1. Has she been checked for sleep apnea recently? Many people mouth breathe due to air hunger from Apnea.
2. How are her sinuses? Does she get clogged up at night? Would something like some saline nasal spray help or treatment for nasal allergies? (watch out for nasal decongestants, they dry the nasal passages and have other issues).
3. Would a single piece of vertical surgical tape from lower lip to upper lip help her keep her mouth closed during sleep (no need to fully seal the lips)?
5. Would something as simple a sleeping with a soft cloth mask help her breathe in moist air at night?
Does she really drink enough fluids during the day? And if she drinks a lot but avoids salt, could she be suffering from hyponatremia (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-con ... ur%20cells.) from drinking too much water and not taking enough electrolytes (often people who really restrict sodium)?
When was the last time her electrolytes and kidney function were checked?
