Current FF mask recommendations for small face and small nose

Post by skyline03 » Mon Apr 12, 2021 4:41 pm

Hi,

I'm a 36-year-old woman with mild sleep apnea who has been attempting CPAP therapy for about 10 weeks now. I have a tiny nose with a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates (considering a procedure to help with that), so I need a full face mask since I can't breathe through my nose the majority of the time. I unfortunately have yet to find a mask that doesn't leak. Here's what I've tried (smallest sizes in all of these):

F30i - The smallest frame size was about two fingers too loose on top (and non-adjustable since it's a tube), and the mask kept getting dislodged throughout the night
F30 - This worked okay the first night or two, but as soon as the cushion started to loosen a tiny bit it was leaking at the top (coming out at the top under the nose. I really would prefer a mask like this that doesn't cover the bridge of the nose, but the small cushions seem to still be too wide for my tiny nostrils. I also tried Padacheek liners with this mask, which helped slightly with the leaking but not enough
F20 - Same leaking issues at the top, got worse after a week
F20 AirTouch - I tried this last night and it was better than anything else, but seems to be riding up a lot. I also still get some leakage around the nose into my eyes

My leaks usually don't measure as high according to my machine, but they're so loud that they regularly wake me (and my boyfriend) up throughout the night. I also already have dry eye issues during allergy season so I don't tolerate the leaking into my eyes well. So, back to the drawing board.

I'm trying to figure out which mask to order next and wanted to see what everyone's current recommendations are for small faces/noses. Most of the recommendations I've seen are for older masks - ResMed and Phillips at least seem to be focusing on "universal fit" masks these days, which are not so universal in my experience. :( I'm currently leaning toward trying the Quattro FX for Her and/or the Mirage Liberty. I'm curious if anyone has found the Quattro FX to fit better than the F20, and also experiences with the nasal pillow sizes on the Liberty. Logically I would think they'd result in less leakage, but even the (special-ordered) small nasal pillows for my Navage are too big for me.

Thanks!

Have you looked at this? There is a sizing guide.

I’d go to CPAP.com and try this based on your situation and how you stated you liked the ResMed F30i (I tried both myself and they are both the same style):

Philips Respironics DreamWear Full Face Mask
With SMALL frame
With SMALL cushion

Personally I have found when the frame on the F30i was too big I folded a wash cloth to the bulk I needed and put it under the top of the frame bringing it up higher on my nose. Made lots of difference in the fit. Now I get lots of oxygen and it stays well all night. Maybe this would help you.
