Resmed S9 autoset problem
Fortunately, I have a spare/travel machine. So, we are functional for now.
My mom and I both use a Resmed S9 autoset. Tonight, hers was "blowing too much air". Not sure exactly what that means, but it sounds like it is starting and stopping once it gets to the starting pressure of 10 (no ramp). She has been using a range of 10-15 for the past 6 years or so (straight 10 before that), so she is used to 10. She said it feels like the mask is being blown off her face.
I was checking out her machine and noticed that the filter and cover were missing. We couldn't find it anywhere in the area, so I grabbed the one off mine to see if that corrected the problem. Nope. So, I grabbed my blower, hooked it up to her humidifier/power cord/etc and changed the range to hers. Started up, and it feels normal. So, something is up with her blower.
It doesn't appear to have any settings changed. She is on medicare, and it has been about 6 years since she got this machine, but she would probably have to do a couple doctor appointments and pay a copay. So, if I can't fix it, I will probably look for another used machine. I am grateful that I have a spare already, though I"m going out of town this weekend (friday morning) and was planning to use my spare/travel machine. I will use my travel machine while she uses my main machine. I may take her blower with me and see if I can experiment with it. I really don't have time tonight. I just wanted to get her set up as her oxygen goes down pretty low without cpap. She had her gallbladder removed last week, and they used a breathing tube because she went down so bad.
Does this issue sound familiar? Anything I can check on my own?
For anybody who doesn't have a spare - get one. These things happen at midnight!

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: Resmed S9 autoset problem
About all I would know to check is the pressure with some sort of homemade manometer.

If she gets a new machine under Medicare, her payout would be around $20 per month for 13 months.

Re: Resmed S9 autoset problem
Update - problem solved!
My mom sleeps in the living room in a recliner with the machine on the floor. With the filter and cover missing, it sucked insome cat and/or dog hair. The cover propbably fell off in one of the hotels during our 3 week trip. I put the cover from my main machine on hers. We can tape it on one side to keep it from falling off again. When I get home, I will take the cover from my travel machine and move it to my main machine. I'm sure I can get another cover, so a fairly cheap repair. The main part was that we had a spare machine with available parts handy to troubleshoot the problem and/or use while figuring it out. So, no loss of use.
The timing did help too. During the trip, I did not have the spare machine with us. I took an extra mask and hose, but not the full machine. And I am out of town this weekend. So, it was good that she asked me Thursday night when I was still home and could change it out. She can't do the stairs to my room. And neither her or my dad are technically inclined. I am my parents' tech support for computer, phone, etc.
I did have trouble with rescscan importing data. I was going to see what it showed before I thought about the air intake being blocked. This laptop hasn't had either software on it, so I had to install. I will try it again at home on thedesktop. I am curious what the data shows. My mom mentioned Friday evening that it had been doing it off and on, though not as badly, for a few days.
So glad there is nothing actually wrong with the machine. Oh, and my mom may want to change her settings a little. I changed mine from 11-17 to her 10-15, but I didn't change anything else such as EPR, etc. I will have to see what hers is set at. She said she slept really well with my machine, and liked it even better.

I used to put mine on a step stool, the kind you buy to step up higher in the kitchen to reach upper cabinets. They typically have a textured surface so the S9 won't slide around and it raises it off the floor.zoocrewphoto wrote: ↑Sat Oct 20, 2018 1:07 pm...machine on the floor. Re: Resmed S9 autoset problem
I am going to suggest something as it really is just sitting on the floor. There are dog beds behind the recliner, so the dogs go back and forth past the machine. Every time we travel together, I usually end up changing her filter as she never does. My machine is in the drawer of an end table next to my bed, so it really doesn't get exposed to much.Muse-Inc wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 12:02 pmI used to put mine on a step stool, the kind you buy to step up higher in the kitchen to reach upper cabinets. I saved the hair I pulled out and put it in a little baggie so that I can show her what was in there. And I will try to check her machine more often. She uses it faithfully, but she doesn't do much to maintain it. She doesn't use the humidifier either, so no need to add water or look at it even. She uses the smart start, so basically she just grabs the mask and puts it on. When she feels she needs a new cushion, she lets me know.

Re: Resmed S9 autoset problem
It would be worth getting a Torx T10 screwdriver and taking it apart, and vacuuming out the inside, if it was run for any length of time there without a filter.zoocrewphoto wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 2:05 pmI am going to suggest something as it really is just sitting on the floor. Let me know, and I'd be happy to walk you through disassembly... it's not difficult, though there are a couple tricky bits... but if you know how to get past those, it's pretty easy.

Thanks. That's a really good idea. I was wondering if I got it all. I will check with my dad and see if he already has one of those screwdrivers. He has a magic garage. If it is tool related or can be done with tools, just tell him what you need, and he comes back with it shortly. She's using my main machine currently and happy, so I can want another day to put it back in service. I get home tonight and have tomorrow off.
