I have been using a CPAP machine for years which is starting to show it's age. The screen is cracked and it seems to be on it's way out.
A couple months ago, my brother in law who also used a CPAP died. His widow gave me his old CPAP. I Plan on storing it until my regular one gives out. I already went into clinical settings and changed the pressure to match mine. My question is, is there any sort of cleaning or preparation i should do prior to storing my BIL's CPAP? He did use a humidifier (i don't). So i dried everything out and ran the machine for a while to try to make sure everything was dry inside. Obviously, i will use my own mask and hose but is there anything i should do to the machine itself regarding cleaning or sterilization?

Re: Inherited CPAP
Sorry for the loss to your family.
Personally, other than what you have already done along with Cardsfan's suggestion, there are a few things I would do:
1) Check the hours on the machine to evaluate just how far along it is in its life cycle.
2) Do a critical evaluation of its capabilities and specifications (are there any features or functions that are new to you - are they useful to you?)
3) If it is a model you are unfamiliar with, read about it and ask questions to become familiar with it.
4) If your current machine and the new one are both fully data capable and SleepyHead compatible, I would begin bringing the new machine into the lineup and rotate the two each week or so, comparing the two in terms of performance and feel as well as how SleepyHead reports their data.

Re: Inherited CPAP
I should mentioned the model. The kind i inherited is a Devilbiss intellipap Standard DV5HH. The kind i use currently is a Resmed Escape II (without the humidifier).
Thanks for the tips. I'll change the filter and see if there are any other features in the Devilbiss. I'm not familiar with Sleepyhead

Re: Inherited CPAP
The DeVillBiss, though not an auto, gives more data than your Escape brick.
Good idea to check it out, you might prefer it to your old machine.

You might have the output checked......either by a local DME or you can do it yourself by going through the following link(s).
