Need Quick Advice on Auto Machine

Post by roster » Thu May 17, 2007 3:48 pm

The sleep doc dropped my pressure from 10 to 8.5 due to bad problems with aerophagia. I was amazed at how much more comfortable sleeping was at 8.5.

At 8.5 I have minor aerophagia while sleeping on my back, but if I roll to either side it takes just a few minutes to pump the stomach with air. Unfortunately, at 8.5 a few nasty apneas returned (as best I can tell without software).

Today the sleep doc scheduled an appointment for me tomorrow with the cpap technician. They will loan me an auto machine but I don't know which model/type at this point. The doc said it would possibly be an auto bipap. They want me to try it out free before looking into a purchase.

The doctor told me they would set the range from 5 to 15. Does this make sense? From my what I read on this forum, I am afraid anything under 7 will be uncomfortable and I am guessing that I need a maximum of 10 to 12 to clear all apneas.

There are two technicians I have seen and one is very easy to work with while the other is cranky and opionated - doesn't want to listen to the patient. I am afraid I will get the latter tomorrow and I want to be prepared to have some input into the settings.

No, I won't change doctors because I am already driving 60 miles in from the country toward suburban Atlanta and the next insurance-approved sleep doc is much further.

I will appreciate your advice.

I don't have advice about the pressure, but perhaps you could find out when each of the technicians is in and reschedule your appointment so you can get the one you like. Or you could just call them and request a particular technician.

Let us know if the bilevel helps the aerophagia. Good luck.

I would think that 5 would be too low and make you feel like you are struggling to breathe. I don't think the 15 for a high will be a problem, unless of course it starts chasing snores.
