Firmware update?

I hooked up my backup machine today because I am getting some whistling out of the other one. As I was transferring the settings I noticed my old machine has version 3.0 and my backup is 2.0 on the same model. Should I update the firmware and can it be downloaded from manufacturer? Thank Michael

You cannot update the firmware on the machine.
It has to be done at the manufacturer factory or sometimes a repair facility can do it.

You might check with acbio.com as they do Respironics cpap warranty work and they can update machines if they have the software.
I have no idea what it would cost or what that update might actually accomplish or if it would be worth it.
I wouldn't worry about it if it were me though.

How many hours should a machine last, it currently has 14000 hours on it.

Mine has nearly 18,000 hours on it.
Quiet as a dead mouse.
Its replacement has been ordered.
5 years/17,000 hours is the average expected life for most machines.

For those of us that have lived in the real world, Most of us believe in Murphy's Law, and plan for trouble before it comes to us. I have found this to be a wise way to live. It seems you have less emergencies when you plan for them. I not only plan to take care of Murphy, but one of his friends. Jim

If you don't have a spare machine I would be at least starting to think about getting one. Plan ahead.
There's no magic timeline...I know one person still using his first machine that he got over 20 years ago and it has a gazillion hours on it...and we hear of machines crapping out after 2 months. We just don't have any way to know for sure how long anything is going to last.
But I guarantee you that if it up and dies...it's going to be a Friday night on a long holiday weekend and the DME will be closed...Murphy's law.

My first machine was bad from the factory. It worked fine, but would not transmit data to ResMed. It was replaced after the first month. My second machine quit six months later when we were out of town. I had to go three nights without the machine before I could get back home. Since my wife and I both use the same model machine, we have two spares standing by, one for her and one for me.

What machine should I look for, currently using Respirionics 960P bipap asv. (not sure why is not in my signature anymore). Is there some newer machine that would work good. Thanks Michael

Any of the equipment choices in the profile list are tied to current for sale inventory at cpap.com.
If they don't currently sell it then it won't show up.
For these situations we just tell people to add it in the comments section of the equipment profile.

The model 960 is an ASV machine....used to treat people with central apnea or a combination of central and obstructive apnea.

There are really only 2 choices in brands for this very special type of machine.
ResMed or Respironics.
Respironics current version of this machine is called the DreamStation BiPAP autoSV

ResMed's current model is called the AirCurve 10 ASV

Their older version of this model is the S9 Adapt model 36037 and the model number is extremely important to get the auto capabilities.
There is an Adapt model 36007 that will treat centrals but it won't auto adjust EPAP to treat obstructives as well as the auto SV mode does.
