Apria vs HME

Post by onward60 » Mon Aug 18, 2025 1:59 pm

Finally, I have finished my required year with Apria (was so unhappy to find the clock re-started when I went on Medicare). I am wanting to switch and am considering HME which is smaller and only serves my area of the state. Anyone have an opinion? Will I be out of the frying pan and into the fire switching from a large supplier to a small one?

Is HME the name of a company? HME supplier is often used as an abbreviation for all home medical equipment suppliers.

In any case, how would anyone here know without being familiar with which company you are talking about?

Some ideas,
- look for Yelp Reviews
- google "(company name) reviews"
- If you have a sleep doctor, ask the respiratory tech about a good supplier. If the tech is good, she will know which suppliers her patients have good experience with.

Apria has issues at many locations. I used them years ago, and they did some exceptionally good things for me. But that was years ago and one office/one supervisor. When we moved, I stayed away from them, and my new sleep doctor's office recommended an excellent four-county supplier.

Yes, HME is a company. I have seen people on this site who live in my area, so OF COURSE I'm hoping someone is familiar with them.
