Re: Sleep Study - Why Only One Night of Data?
WHY? Because the AASM says so. Home sleep tests are useful when positive only. "Negative" from a home sleep test is basically the same as "inconclusive" when someone is obviously symptomatic and needs accurate diagnosis of sleep difficulties. That is not a knock against home sleep testing. Many med...

Re: Sleep Study - Why Only One Night of Data?
All humans sleep, and no human sleeps perfectly. But in the context of evaluating a likely-OSA-sufferer, the real purpose of most home sleep tests these days is simply to look for some/any indication that PAP therapy may be helpful to the person. If that indication is not found in the home sleep tes...

Re: BiPAP better than APAP?
BiPAP better than APAP? The terms are not mutually exclusive. Bilevel treatment may be auto-titrating just as non-bilevel treatment may be auto-titrating. ResMed machines are often considered particularly comfortable. Even ResMed non-bilevel CPAPs and APAPs have something that feels and acts quite ...

Re: Continued use of recalled Philips Dreamstation machine
I agree with Pugsy, as is true 99.999% of the time--although this statement by the OP does give me some pause: . . . noticed some of these black dust-looking particles inside the humidifier tray of her machine . . . I tend to evaluate the conflicting protocols of competing risks (such as risks of di...

Re: Choosing a new auto cpap device
I don't know anything about the Chinese company VentMed or its machines, myself. I am a fan of ResMed machines and approach for treating SDB but not really a fan of ResMed's business approach as a company. One comparison seems to indicate that in comparison to the ResMed machine, the VentMed machine...

Re: How does CPAP prevent apnea?
In the case of OSA: OSA stands for obstructive sleep apnea, which CPAP treats by preventing obstruction and by preventing the narrowing of the airway, thus keeping the airway stable . while I am awake and consciously hold my breath CPAP treats sleep-breathing , not awake-breathing. what triggers me ...

Re: Just bragging a bit
If you don't mind my asking, . . . what have you found to be most helpful so far with sleep-maintenance insomnia arthritis stress and grief? And what seems to make them worse? I know you are a focused problem-solver, so I'm just hoping to learn what you've learned so far about what does and doesn't ...

Re: OSCAR vs. ResMed myAir App
MyAir provides virtually effortless access to very basic information that is meant to inform a user in a broad way about hours of use and AHI in a way that may motivate continued use of the machine and cheer the patient on, but it doesn't provide the sort of details needed to troubleshoot individual...
