Re: New CPAP user

When you get up at night, leave the mask on. Disconnect the hose from the mask, then reconnect it when you go back to bed. If you leave the mask on, you will remember to reconnect it.

Re: Waking up at night

I never lay down until my machine has reached its operating pressure. If I don't have a good seal sitting up, I know there is no way it will seal when I lay down. If I get up during the night, I turn the machine off and remove the house from the mask. When I get back in bed, I connect the house to t...

Re: Resmed Airsense 10 MyAir report

MyAis is also used by the DME and/or doctor to verify usage or non-usage so they can be payed by your insurance. After I was on my machine for a month, I got a call from the DME wanting to know why I wasn't using my bipap. It turned out my machine would not transmit information. They swapped machine...

Re: Ramp time

Ramp time is a personal preference thing. When I first started, I set my ramp at 45 minutes so I would get to sleep before the pressure got too high, but I found I would lay there and wait for the pressure to go up before I went to sleep. I tried decreasing it a couple times, and finally turned it o...

Re: MyAir 100, but still tired

MyAir is good for reporting compliance to your insurance company. The DME can access the information and say you are using the machine. Sleepyhead is much better for showing what is actually going on during the night.

Re: Mask woes, just when I thought I mastered it.

If your nose is still sore, and you want to try the quatro, try using a band aid on the nose. Once it heals, you can try useing a piece of moleskin on your nose. The person I was working with at the DME said her husband uses moleskin on his nose every night. I have tried it, and it really helps me.

Re: Newb question. Facial hair and full mask

When I had my first titration study done, I had a full beard. They had to use a liner under the mask in order to get a good enough seal. Depending on what your pressure is, you may not be able to get a good seal with a beard. I ended up shaving my beard off because I could not get a good seal with m...

Re: Adjusting

The 7/20 for mask seal is the MyAir score for overall mask seal. Even though it shows a smiley face for your mask seal, you are having leaks. The lower the score, the higher your leaks. A good seal will give you a score of 20/20. Major leaks will lower your score even more.

Re: Sore throat advice? Deviated septum surgery?

I had a septoplasty and soft palate surgery several years ago. It helped my sleep apnea for a few years. The septoplasty helped my breathing period. My deviated septum was so bad, I could only breath through one nostril at a time. I would recommend the septoplasty, but not the palate surgery.

Re: HELP! Im a new Cpap user and failing!

I have found I do better without using the ramp function. I put on my mask and start the machine about 20 minutes before I am ready to go to sleep. I watch the news and weather, then turn off the TV. By them I am acclimated to the mask, and I fall asleep within five minutes.
