Re: Poll: GERD and Sleep Apnea

What tests should be performed to access the extent of GERD damage. My ENT did an endoscopy when I complained of feeling like I had a lump in my throat. He discovered a sore spot on my Epiglottis, said the cause was GERD, and sent me home with some Nexium samples. I think the endoscopy should be th...

Re: Poll: GERD and Sleep Apnea

Rooster...My recovery was textbook......a couple weeks of soft foods and then pretty much back to normal foods. Today I eat everything. I have not taken a med since the day of surgery. The key is to be tested to be sure you are a good candidate for the proceedure and to find a surgeon that is very e...

Re: Poll: GERD and Sleep Apnea

I suffered with GERD for several years. In 2002 I had the Nissen surgery to repair the sphincter...this completely cured the GERD. I was diagnosed with OSA this past fall.

I find that when I sleep on my side the mask and hose fit into the contoured gap very nicely. In softer pill...

Re: Adderall, melatonin and other sleep disrupters & fixes

I also take the 3mg Melatonin...it does relax my mind enough to let me fall asleep relatively quickly, but, I still have trouble staying asleep for the whole night . Prior to the CPAP I was up 3-4 times a night. Now, with the Melatonin to help me get to sleep and the CPAP to help me stay asleep I on...

Re: Sleep Apnea Treatment Is Moving Toward Oral Appliances

There are OTC appliances available...I've seen them on TV. They are advertised to treat snoring.

Re: New or Used Machine?

When I received my first CPAP from Apria, we found that it was too noisy. After 1 week they exchanged it for me. Perhapps these trial/exchanges are cleaned up and re-sold.

Re: Pneumonia and CPAP

Right side is bad if you are refluxing. If you look at a diagram of your anatomy, you will see that the esophagus enters the stomach on the right. If you lay on your right side, acid from the stomach can leak into the esophagus. If you lay on your lefty side, any acid in the esophagus drains into th...

Re: CPAP & Sleeping Tablets

For general sleeping problems, my GP suggested low dose amitriptyline (elavil). I took it during my first 7-10 days with the CPAP without any problems.
