Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Thank you for sharing that Pugsy. I see you have covered the RR topic many times on the forum. I zoomed in to a few areas to manually count. I just don't know when/what time that max of 28 was recorded. Is there a way to know that besides manually going through the whole night? Like you said it's a ...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Thank you Pugsy. I tried with EPR off last night. Definitely a different feeling. While awake, it was like I had to take a really deep inhale in order to emit enough force for a full exhale against the pressure. Who knows what happened while sleeping. I still had disturbances but at least I didn't s...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Thank you Pugsy - I will shut off my EPR and see if that helps. And yes I went from Miami to Mexico! From Elevation. 6 ft (2 m) to 1,888 m (6,194 ft). There are multiple articles I just looked up on this. I guess that is what it is. It's increasing my centrals. Very fragmented sleep. It's weird beca...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Ok I will do that.. shut it off when that happens. I have been here two weeks and it has been happening every night the last week. My bed here is pretty comfortable. I am actually sleeping at my parents house. No meds, no extra stress. I am in shape. If they are short events (under 20 seconds) do yo...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Thank you ChicagoGranny - I figured out where it shows the length of time after reading through your posts on the forum. I attached the image. They all are under 20s. I read that you said that this may be me reflexively holding my breath while changing positions. On my worst nights I have 28 and 41 ...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Hi All - I finally got to posting my results from Oscar. What pushed me is that my Apnea seems to have gotten worse over the last 2 weeks. The only thing that changed for me is that I am on vacation from flat humid Florida to the West dry mountains. I have also been doing a lot more neck exercises t...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

PR is noted for being a hard ass... he def. knows his stuff, but unfortunately delivery may leave something to be desired... but you're not alone in getting it, just ignore, the rest of us try to be a bit more understanding when possible. :) Thank you Julie. You're one of the good ones. I'll...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

I joined this forum thinking this was a safe place for people suffering from sleep apnea. It's a "safe place" (if you will) for people looking for help . It is not a "safe place" for crackpot 'theories' theories that may mislead newbies into thinking stupid things that may end up harming them or de...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

Rule of thumb with most muscles is by giving them a little extra work, they get stronger, not weaker. If your theory had any merit, then millions of CPAP users would have compromised exhalation muscles. We don't. Yes that is true about muscles. I am not sure if my theory has merit which is why I po...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

I assume if you are a dentist, you took anatomy and physiology before or during dental school. Don't you remember this: For the most part, exhalation during sleep is PASSIVE. "The process of normal expiration is passive, meaning that energy is not required to push air out of the lungs. Instead, the...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

We all adjust our pressures when Oscar shows us it's worth a try (using the clinician manual to explain which buttons to push). Oh ok. I haven't used Oscar yet. So would you say changing the settings will mostly be based on Oscar vs. what your personal experience is or maybe a combo of the two? I w...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

While you are sleeping because you are unconscious your force of exhalation is at the mercy of your CPAP pressure. Look, I'm a tiny female that is more than twice your age. My exhale pressure setting is higher than yours. When I fall asleep, my autonomous nervous system controls breathing. I breath...

Re: Muscles of exhalation compromised with CPAP

I am writing this post to see if anyone has any feedback or is having the same experience with general breathing as I am. I have been using my CPAP for 2 years consistently now. I am a 39 yr old relatively athletic male dentist. I have not fully accepted that I will be using CPAP for the rest of my...
